Problem setting page breaks in Excel 2007

Got an odd one for ya guys...talked with a user earlier today who was trying to set the page breaks for a spreadsheet. I was in a netmeeting with him and could see/control his machine. We go to page break preview and drag the page break line over to where we would like it set. Now...instead of it setting the page break there...it creates a page break around EACH and EVERY cell. So that if you go to print preview, you're looking at ONE cell and you'd be printing...oh...a couple THOUSAND pages. lol.

Anyone ever seen this before? User states that it never happened in 03 and just started since he's been upgraded. I had him forward me the spreadsheet and naturally I was not able to duplicate the problem. I set the page breaks and emailed it back to him so he was at least able to get it printed off...but after tinkering with the file a little more, the problem came right back.

Been looking through google for a few minutes now but haven't really found anything yet that jumps out at me...so thought I'd post it here as well. Tomorrow morning will most likely do a repair on the Office install and see if that helps any...

Hi Gouki,

I ran into the same issue a little while ago. I believe it has something to do with the size of the margins you have set.

Now, chances are that much like me, your margins were not overly large at all, so there seems to be no clear reason why they are causing a problem. But make them as small as possible, and work your way up from there to find how large they can be.

Also, footers and headers MAY have an effect on this as well.

Hey Gouki,

I had a very similar one at work, on a machine attached to an A4 pageprinter ( network) and a Label Printer ( Local ).

Excel was seeing only the Label Printer, and trying to fit an A4 page on to an equivalent number of labels.

Once it was told to use the pageprinter, it was fine!

Maybe an avenue to explore?

I know this is an old thread, but in case anybody else is stumbling upon it, this is a fix I found in another forum. It fixed this exact problem for me, hope it helps you, too!

I have not found a permanent solution to this problem but one thing that seems to help is to go into c:\program files\microsoft office\office12 and delete EXCEL.EXE

Once you launch Excel again from the start menu (the shortcut from quick launch will not work (if applicable) as it is pointing to the program you just deleted) - you will see Excel install and voila! no more issues with print preview.

However, I have one user who has seen this problem return and I have completely removed office and added it back previously. I am not sure what the final fix is for this, but the above serves as a temporary solution.

I would get so irritated with this! I'm so glad someone found a work around. I used to have to open the file on a different computer (i.e. remote acces worked fine) save it, then go back in on my local computer. Hopefully this will be a more permanent fix! I too use a network printer, so there may be something to that...
