View Full Version : Reprogramming Cisco 678 Modem
I purchased a Cisco 678 Modem and it is set to CAP mode but I need to reprogram it to DMT mode. Can you tell me how to reprogram the modem or where I can find instructions on how to reprogram it. I am attempting to connect DSL to a small office LAN. Thank you.
Go the the QWest web site at
http://www.qwest.com/dsl/customerservice/csco678ups.html
Click on the operating system and it will direct you to another page. At the very bottom of the page you will find the following:
"If your modem is set to DMT, the following will appear.
Click here, if you have a DMT modem, for the upgrade instructions and CBOS file!" (without the quotations marks)
Even though the modem is set to CAP firmware click on the DMT and it will give you directions on how to change the modem from CAP to DMT.
One precaution, you will only have 20 seconds to prepare the modem to be reprogrammed and I was advised that if you did not meet the deadline you could ruin the modem. The recommendation is that you review the instructions on line so that you are familiar with the protocol before you actual go through the protocol.
I spent about 1 and 1/2 hours waiting for technical support to learn the answer.
;) ;)
