Its been a while since I've been here, but in that time I have added a couple of things to my old system (built a year ago), & seriously overhauled my really old system (from 2 1/2 years ago).
Here's the stats on the "old" system (usually referred to as My ANTEC System, uses the 1080AMG case):
(Those marked with an "*" are new add-ins)
-Athlon XP 2200+
-A-Open AK77-333 (KT333 Board)
-512MB DDR333
-Win XP Home
-WD 80GB
-CD burner
-DVD
-GF4 Ti-4200 64MB DDR
*SB Live!
-RAID/ATA133 controller card
*ZIP 100 drive
-10/100 NIC
*ATI TV Tuner card (no stereo reception avail)
*1 multi-color LED cooling fan, 1 Blue LED cooling fan, 1 Green LED cooling fan
*19" APEX flat screen TV (using for primary display for now until I can get a new 17" or larger display)
My NEW "really old" system, was intended to be a major upgrade to that older one, just like the last one, but as what happened to the other one, the upgrade turned ionto basically a whole new system, with a few parts migrated over:
(commonly referred to as my nForce or nForce2 system)
(Those marked with an "*" are old parts from old system)
-Athlon XP 2200+
-A-Open AK79D-400VN (nForce2 Ultra 400 board)
-2x256MB DDR 266 (running dual channel)
*WD 40GB (pulled from system above)
*WINME (will be upgrading to XP shortly)
-SB Live! Value
*GF FX 5200 128 MB DDR (in AGP 8x)
-ZIP 100 drive
*DVD drive
-CD Burner
*14" 1024x768 monitor
My 2 other systems are either partially operational, or sitting partly scrapped & mothballed:
system 1 (known as the "church" system):
got this one for free from church while helping my brother with his Eagle Scout project, the churches educational director is an old elemntary teacher of mine & was to help me & my brother recondition & fix a ton of old Apple IIGS's to be sent off to africa somwhere, well there was a PC to be fixed too, So I told them I could do it & even get it some substantial upgrades for cheap too, they said go ahead & that they'll even reimburse me for the cost of the upgrades, I said sure, so while they were looking for a way to send the systems cheap, I had some time, but after a few months I ran into my old teacher & he said that they already sent off the Apples & if I could use the PC for something (being he forgot about it altogether), I said maybe, so he said go ahead & keep it as a thank you for helping.
its an old super socket 7 AGP 2x board (Gigabyte)
I forget the exact model #
- had a K62 300 in it, upgraded to a 500
-32MB PC100, has trouble accepting almost any PC100 modules I put in?
-Upgraded from Win95 to 98
-for some reason its bios only lists SCSI CD-Roms for start-up, can't remember what speed (its an EIDE drive for sure), but have a 32x upgrade for it
-it has an old 4MB Trident AGP card in it, but have purchased a 3DFX Voodoo 3 3500 16MB card for it even with external composite/S-video/VGA video connection module.
-3.2GB HD, I have a 10 GB ATA drive from really old system to put into it, when i'm ready?
-there's a 16bit ISA sound card in it that I added, but may upgrade to a 32-bit "cheapo" PCI card.
-USB 1.0 or 1.1 connections
other than that it runs somewhat okay except for the fact that win98 doesn't detect a USB storage device on any of the USB ports even with the drivers for that device installed?
also I need to figure out the exact jumper config to set the CPU's speed, as it still detects it at the 300MHz speed & not 500.
system 2:
recently scrapped for parts for newest PC (GFFX, etc) & the SBlive from it for my first one listed (the ANTEC), this one currently sits on top of my ANTEC case waiting to be restored, or sold which ever comes first. Ive long since removed the 120mm Antec fan, the drive cage is out, but still with the WD 30GB drive & WD 10GB drive in the cage, all that is left is the FIC AZ11E Mobo, AMD T-bird 1.3GHz CPU, 1 x 256MB PC133 Micron DIMM, sold the other 2 128MB PC133 K-byte DIMMS last week, also the CD burner (which i'll be giving to my second oldest brother for his old system, an Emachines system with a Celeron 333 in it in serious need of an upgrade), other than the case & PS, not much else is left of that old system.
How ever I do have a 600 MHz Celeron sitting around that I want to use to upgrade my brothers system, but he keeps giving me this line of crap that he doesn't really need the upgrade as he doesn't use the PC for games & such, much, but yet he's got Cable internet & only recently let me upgrade his system from 32MB of PC 100 to 96MB's with an extra 64MB module I had for the church system that didn't work in that one. its only a matter of time before he cracks.
Also I have a PII 266 slot 1 card laying around that I'd like to use to put together an old system like that someday, only if i could find a cheap slot 1 board with at least 128MB memory, an AGP slot & a case for less than $50?
