Slot A Athlon 500 and ASUS K7M-RM.

Turned it on for the first time and got into the bios. Was browsing around the bios and it locked up (about 1 minute of on time). Shut it off, took the HS/F off and I could see some paste wasn't touching the heatsink. Turns out the HS/F didn't seat properly becuse one of the clamps was bent. It may have been over the part where the cpu is attached to the casing, not sure. Redid the goop and still no boot. Fans and hard drive spin up, just no video. I don't remember any beeps either time, so I may have the speaker hooked up wrong. According to the manual I had all the dips and jumpers correct which is default. The only thing is that the ram is 133 instead of 100, not sure if I was supposed to set jumpers for that or not.

Think it's fried? If it is, would it cause damage to the mobo or video? I don't want to get another cpu if the mobo is fried.

Thanks!

Turns out the HS/F didn't seat properly becuse one of the clamps was bent. I'm sure you've got that fixed now, right?

...just no video This is a pertinent piece of info. Did you make sure your video card is seated into the mobo properly?

The only thing is that the ram is 133 instead of 100, not sure if I was supposed to set jumpers for that or not.
From what I'm gathering, this (http://www.motherboard.cz/mb/asus/K7M-RM.htm) is your mobo. AMD-751TM North Bridge to Support 200MHz FSB and 3.3V PC100 SDRAM ===> So I'm pretty sure you need to set the jumper to use PC100 SDRAM, and you NEED to use PC100 SDRAM not PC133.

Keep us updated. :)

As far as I can tell I got the heat sink to seat, will go buy another to be sure and try it with PC100. From looking at the manual some more it looks like I prob need to use pc100. It said it works with both, but than I found switch settings and it doesn't list 133 MHz ram.

Thanks

It was the ram. I remembered I had a pc100 stick and tried it, seems to work fine now. Thanks!

No problem, that's what I was thinking too. ;)
