I have new install of XP on an older machine. When I try to install a program, I get an error from windows installer saying it can't find package.msi. And the program won't install. The program that gave me this error first was pcAnywhere 10.5 if it matters, I don't think there's a prob with it. But I will try to install another norton program later and see it is the same.

After searching the net I traced it down to possibly being a problem with msi.dll. M$ had a new download for WI for every OS except XP. On XP it said to call support to get it fixed

The only wierd thing that I could think of with the system is that it was very low on disk space when I installed XP. I will try reiinstall XP if I find no other answer and see if something was messed up during 1st install.

Ever heard of this prob on XP?

Thanx,
Nick

I personally haven't seen this happen.

What version of WinXP are you running?
And what was the exact error message, word for word?

Well, something else came up and I have desided to just reinstall xp fresh at a later time (it was an upgrade from 98). I need to swap the hard drive out of this machine with another one.

But, the message is attached if you want to see it. Deleting any PCA files, cleaning the reg, and trying to reinstall it may work.
