Well, doing my taxes wasn't too bad this year. :)
Except trying to print a 540 from the CA.gov website. :(

The federal 1040's printed just fine, but the California 540's printed all the text as invalid characters. Both sites used PDF's.

I tried "print as an image" but couldn't get the margins to come out. (Clipped off the edges.)

Then I tried my wife's PC with the same OS (98se), same ver. of Acrobat (4.0), hooked to the same printer (Stylus color 400), and it worked fine.

I don't have a clue what went wrong here. :o

One possible diff. Mine has a pass-thru Zip250. Hers has a pass-thru Dazzle video capture module. But I've nevre seen a diff in printer pereformance on either PC.

But my 1040's printed fine

I got version 5.0 and it seems to work fine have you tryed that version yet? maybe a bug in 4.0 put up a link to the page you want printed out and I'll try it and post back on the out come.

I don't think it's the version. My wife's PC has the same version, and it worked fine.
Maybe some setting in Windows or Acrobat is different?
I'm not sure what to look for.

Have you tried re-installing Acrobat? Maybe a font file or someother file is slightly messed up on your system?

Well, since it's the 16 hopefully you got it printed out....

But I'll answer anyway. You can install multiple versions of Acrobat and Reader on the same machine. You can try installing a diff version next time you have a prob. I would guess either the fonts as someone said or using the passthru. But with Adobe, who knows :)

There have been some weird bugs before with Acrobat and having multiple versions usually help me work around them.

Same tip goes for Illustrator, Premere, etc :)

Well, as I said, the federal 1040 printed out fine. Just the Cal. state 540 screwed up. So I suspected it might be a font on the 540 that the printer didn't like. But my other PC printed the 540 fine, on that same printer.

Bot PC's have the same installation of Win98se, & therefore the same fonts installed. But perhaps it was the Acrobat installation.

Does anyone know if Acrobat installs any fonts to Windows?

PS: yes I got my taxes filed on time. :D

The full version of Acrobat installs fonts, but not intirely sure if reader does. You can look under the install directory and see if there are any fonts in there and try reinstalling them. But if print to image worked, then it probably isn't a problem with a bad font. You can try a different version of reader and/or reinstaling the print driver.
