OK ... Don't know if I am in the right spot or not but here goes.

Got my DNS Server set up. Got it registed as a name server. Got my domain registered. Created a Domain.

Installed IIS and set up the web site.

Everything works internally. When I type in www.37043.com it goes to the web site.

Now ... What I want to know is ... How can I go outside my network to see if it is active yet ( in other words has it populated throughout all the DNS Servers ). Is there a Web Site that I can go to that will let me check to see if it is active.

Hi Shadow!

This thread will show up on the homepage, so it does get seen, but it's probably better off in the Networking Area of the forum!

This bit, the test area is usually where people try out uploads and so on to see how they interact with the forum software!

No worries, one of the Mods can move it over, it will prolly get more coverage there!

As to your question, I don't know:) But someone will!

Thanks ... I knew someone would know where to put it ... lol

If it will get moved automatically by someone I will rest easy if not let me know who I need to contact to get it moved.

When did you buy the domain? 37043.com doesn't show up in a whois on internic.net's whois database. I also tried networksolutions.com, register.com, and bulkregister.com.
If you bought it today or in the last 24 hours, it may take a little while for it show up in the world.
If you want to see if other DNS servers recognize it, you can go to a command propmt in XP or 2k and type:

nslookup 37043.com ns1.fuse.net
or
nslookup 37043.com DNS1.REGISTER.COM

it should return your IP address if it has propogated. However, if the domain hasn't left the registrar's database and gone everywhere else, then no DNS server is goign to pick it up.

If you plan on making frequent changes to the DNS of your domain (like adding subnets; eg: mail.37043.com or abcxyz.37043.com or i.got.a.big.number.and.its.37043.com ), then make sure the TTYL is set to something low, like 180 seconds so it will propogate faster on the net.

Thanks all ...

Just got the domain name yesterday.

When I do the nslookup it indicates that it is being served by the dns servers. I have no way to check it myself though.

What I need to do is be able to get outside my domain or network and type in www.37043.com and make sure it is working.

Thanks ...

A good place to start testing from is www.dnsstuff.com

Btw I moved this to "servers" since you are trying to get a website working that your own server is to be hosting ;)

Btw The root dns servers say there is NO "A" records for your domain name Infact your name 37043.com isnt even found....If you just bought the name it will take anywhere from 24-72 hours before DNS can even begin to try and resolve and then to have it work properly you need to create the address records for your domain and allow those to be populated to the world first before anyone outside of your own network can find the site

btw who did you buy the name thru?

Thanks Everyone ... It must have populated throught the DNS Servers rapidly, because it is working now.

mntsnow ... Thanks fot the dnsstuff link ...

mntsnow ... I registered the domain through GoDaddy

Now ... If I can get Imail Server set up and running I will be semi-happy. LOL

another option to see if the web server is actually responding ...

www.anonymizer.com .... will let you browse the web through a remote proxy ...
