Ok, I just installed this application from within my WinXP Pro installation. I don't have any experience with IIS, but I am eager to learn. My goal is to use it in conjunction with PHP-Nuke and to learn more about the Webserver end of the internet world.
I've always been participating in websites, and maybe even building a few small ones of my own with pure HTML. But, I've never really took time to learn about databases, server software, NOS's, networks, and other programming languages.
Those who have experience with IIS (recent versions please), I would be grateful if you could provide any useful information, tips, etc to get me started using it (I have IIS 5.1). If you have any links to sites that provide a helpful tutorial, FAQ, or links for beginners using IIS that would also be helpful.
Thanks! :)

Well I will first tell you to make sure you have ALL the patches from MS' website installed and regualarly check for updates!
Now since you say your wanting to learn Databases and PhpNuke that means you will need to install MySQL and PHP support on the server as well. This can be a slightly daunting task for a 1st time user of IIS but it is do able...
I also will suggest that you do some reading over at www.dslwebserver.com as he has some good overall info. Then for IIS I suggest www.iisadministrator.com (although to see and read the archives/indepth articles you need to have a membership)
http://www.dslwebserver.com/main/fr_index.html?/main/step-by-step.html and that should keep you busy for a while :)

Here is the stable version of MySQL for Windows
http://www.mysql.com/downloads/download.php?file=Downloads/MySQL-3.23/mysql-3.23.49-win.zip
and here is the current version of PHP for windows
http://www.php.net/downloads.php and use the "installer version" for a 1st time user and of course you need the "windows binary" versions ;)

Thank you very much. :) I'll be reading all of those shortly, and installing the necessary software as well. For now, as you may already know I'm working with a $0 budget available for spending money for services such as the one you mentioned. I'll do the best I can w/the "free" services/software that are available.
I'm on the same page as jadison, wanting to learn more about IIS and back-end web dev. Thanks for those links, Mntsnow.

I've come across another great site for developers, Developer Shed (http://devshed.com/) and their very helpful forums (http://forums.devshed.com/).
BTW, this link: http://www.dslwebserver.com/main/fr...ep-by-step.html came up dead for me, I even tried their homepage: http://www.dslwebserver.com and that came up dead too. Is there site down, or is it me?
