Is there a tutorial on here that explains how to set up a LAN for say 2 - 4 computers and a router (such as a Linksys 4 port router?)
Possible games might include:
Jedi Outcast
RTCW
Halo
(These games are considered standard for the SP/MP genre)

1:Make sure all comps are in the same workgroup.
2: set TCP/IP to auto.
Game away!

Ok, what about for someone who has tried all that?
Do you have basic network connectivity? Can you "see" the other machines on the network? Can you ping each other?

I haven't done a ping but we have shared each other's drives and have rights to each other's folders and stuff.
I was just hoping there was some kind of tutorial that I could read. I wanted to do this a year ago, but got sidetracked. But, here next month or the following, I'm moving my systems and I'm going to set up a LAN where I can do some serious gaming (in my spare time, of course) between 3 computers.

C.C. all I did for UT was enable the nics in advance options in ZA free. sometimes that got acting up so I would just go around to all the machines and disable ZA and sygate's firewall on my box and the server.
SMC router here btw. Oh I did have to port forward the UT port on the W2K server. and I served online a 6 man custom map server for a while, that was an interesting experince

You know, I've had firewall issues before. It's gonna be a while until I do this, I just wanted to "chew" on the subject for a while. As a programmer, I let things set and I "chew" on them.
