I'm trying to setup a 2 comp. network, I have a cable modem (motorola SB4100) and I can't get the modem to work with a D-Link DI 704 router, I followed the quick install guide and no go.
With everything shut down I hooked all the cables up in the proper order (modem to WAN, router to nic, powerd on the hub and let it do the self test and the lights all work as per the guide,
turned on 1st pc only let it boot hit the ie icon and nothing (can' find page) been at this 3 days and I'm beginning to see serious mental break down HELLLLLLP.

See what I mean (powered on hub should be powered on router)

I'm not a pro at this. You need to get all the info from your ISP like the IP number, subnet, gateway,DNS primary, and secondary DNS. Then you need to go into your router software and enter all that info.
Call your ISP and they might walk you through it all.

Look in your book and see what (if) there is a page to access the route. I don't know about d link.. but with belkin you open your browser and type http://192.168.1.1 that takes you to the setup page.

There is a real possibility that your router is bad too..

The IP for the Dlink DI-704 is 192.168.0.1 to access the setup menu. The default password is "admin", change it as soon as possible by clicking on "setup" and changing the password after logging in.

Make sure that you are using standard CAT5 cables for every connection, not crossover cables. If you have a crossover cable between the modem and router, you won't get an internet connection.
