I'm currently running a fully legit Windows 2003 Server on a 512/256 Connection :o I'm hosting 7 Domains at the moment and they are considerably slow, I know it's gettin ridiculas :(
My Dad and I are looking to get a better connection, we are lookin towards an RADSL 4096/768 Connection or an SHDSL 1024/1024 Symmetric, two-way broadband connection.
Both are in the same price range, what should I go with?!"
I want your opinion what would be suitable for my arangement? Would the 4Mbit make up for the 256 loss in upload or am I better off with 1024/1024?
Mntsnow could I ask what your bandwidth is as you host your own sites! :)

You want as much outbound as possible for your customers. Inbound only affects you unless your customers are sending big files instead of http gets. It's the 256 outbound that's hurting you right now. Either of your choices will be much better than what you have currently but which you end up using depends on what your traffic is.

You need to establish what is most important - your upload speed to serve data to others, or your download speed.
The likelyhood is your upload speed is the most crucial, and so SHDSL has my vote.

Snaggle,
UPLOAD is the number that you need to be most concerned with in hosting enviroment. So the 1024/1024 connection would be the best. Heck your 256 connection would be plenty for 7 sites as long as the majority of the sites were text based as it is a combination of many factors that effect how "fast" a website is... Some of them are factors such as Size of the page being served, Total number of images and or plugins that need to be sent, Client or server sided scripting, Database processing time, network congestion and of course total amount of requests being made against the server...
As Tmx said you basically have to determine what is your primary goal? Overall avaliablity (Upload) to your webhosting clients or your ability to DOWNload files yourself.
Your last question was what my connection is....My connection is a 1meg x 1meg DSL and it currently supports This site (xpc serves around 3/4 of a million pages a month currently and well over 4 million hits!) and a total of 28 other sites(admittedly they are no where as busy as this site but several are very graphic intensive) between 2 webservers/ftpservers, 1 database server, 3 dns servers, 2 email servers (supporting all 29domains) and including the web-sufing and online gaming my family does.
