First this is a frankenstien -

the issues are this - W98se - no ICS - never had it on this one - I had a isa modem running - pulled it - and then about two weeks later put it back in - restarted and it coughed a couple times but then saw that it was back and reloaded software -

When I use the DUN to connect manually I get a connection- and it authenticates - but only about 500 bits are sent and about 398 are recieved - when I hit the IE button it goes to hook on - displays message in bottom left corner - "detecting" and after a minute or so I goes - no page - cannot connect!

When I hit outlook mail to tie on it goes and fails Socket error 11001 - SSL = no;; error number 0x800ccod "verify you have entered the server name correctly"

I have seen this before - cann't remmeber how I fixed it - and this time brute force on using partion magic will not work to rescue data - and just do a reinstall -

I want to find the problem and fix it as the box is working really well -

Thanks - regards - wiz

well, if it's a Eccp machine, then all is forgiven, you must go out and buy it a new stick of ram right away and a new modem, how can you expect a Eccp machine to work under those conditions with an older modem and stale ram?

And a dualy tyan MB - and twin athalons to keep it warm - ?

that may be next month - I think I found the article over at MS misinformation base - sometimes I find it really hard to get the right geek terms that these guys would have files it under.
