I have used different ad-aware cleaners but this one from lavasoft is the best I have found so far. It is configurable and will clean your entire machine including the registry. It is a small proggie. And best of all its freeware :). Run it and I think you will be suprised at what it finds.

download Ad-aware 5.7 here (http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10106-108-63806.html)

I started using that on a normal basis after OptOut (provided by GRC (http://www.grc.com)) was no longer offered to the public. I found it to be better and more configurable as you just mentioned, RK. I like it, although I only use it on my WinME machine, not in WinXP.
I usually download a lot of Freeware proggies in WinME to test them out there, then if they're really useful and compatible w/WinXP I'll use them in XP as well.

Thanks for pointing this software out to the Xtreme community, RK. :)

adaware is great. I just got the new version one one of my machines. it took my a while to get though the D/L site, as a error message kept poping up basicly saying all servers and mirrors were busy. no to uninstall the old versiom on the othe machine and get the new on them'

Alas I have to disagree.

I found AD-AWARE from lavasoft to be sh*t.

I installed the program and ran it....to have to screw my registry up the wazoo (thank god for backups). I also found it attempting to access the internet...did anyone else?

I do hate spyware/junkware. Download more spyware and junkware to delete the ones already on your computer? I think not...

I do have to say this -- software that searches for spyware is few and far inbetween. I have no room to talk considering I cannot offer an alternative program...I will say this...with a little common sense and computer know how, you wont download virus's or spyware....be selective about what comes into your computer as you would your own body.
