Howdy, XPC!
Just recently discovered your boards while looking for solutions to some problems, and I LIKE it! Great job you're doing here, thanks!

First, I'll describe my situation out here, so you'll understand why I'd like to see a new forum category.
I'm an over the road trucker, and believe it or not, this industry is going high tech in a big way. Most of us out here carry laptops now, both for business and personal use, and with the advent of WiFi technology, many of our truck stops are now 'hot spots'.
Having a bit more computer savvy than most of my fellow drivers, I'm finding myself trying to answer technical questions about mobile networking in general, and often machine specific problems as well. Not to mention having to deal with a few of my own.:wtf:

That said, I'd like to see a category specifically dealing with mobile computer issues, hopefully so a few people who know more than I do will start posting some useful information.
The technologies being used out here on the road are mostly WiFi, Cellular phone/data connections, Ethernet/USB connections in some truck stops, and the occasional satellite connection. Any discussion of tips, tricks, problems, etc., would be wonderful.

Thank you for your time, and I think I'm gonna like this place!

those are similar forums...but i get what you mean...maybe make 2 forums... hardwired and wireless as a subsection of networking, and remove the dsl/broadband, as it would fall under those two categories.

mike, andy...what do you guys think?

Actually, I think a subforum for wireless would be very good.

Lots of folks running home wireless now, so should be a bit of interest there. ;)

I just got home from my fathers wedding and will do some thinking on how to maybe re-organize the networking type forums

FENRYR, Welcome to XPC and thanks for the kudo's :)

The WiFi connection I'm using mostly these days is a subscription service through Flying J truck stops...Got a good deal on the service, $99 for a year's unlimited access through any of about 400 truck stops nationwide, which also includes the use of Ethernet or USB hardwired connections inside the terminal, and the WiFi hot spot covers the entire truck parking area, so most of the time I can just log on right from the cabin of my rig.

I took a hosing on the PCMCIA card, though, the truck stop charges $70 for the same card I later found at Wal Mart for $30. These people think truckers wipe their a**es with $100 bills!

Personally, I've never used anything larger than a fifty..
