Hey all, I'm trying to setup a DHCP server in Server 2003. What I am trying to do is kind of messed up but, I will try to explain it. I have a regular network behind a router now and a 5 port switch in the room where my servers are. I have two servers and my little one right now just acts as my DNS Server. The other server does everything else such as mail, ftp, web, and all of that good stuff. These servers are both running 2003. The main one is running Small Business Server 2003 and the DNS server is running Enterprise Server 2003. What I want to do is make the DNS server a DHCP server only for my other server to connect through. I have already added a second network card to the current DNS server for the connection to the other server to route through. I connected the DNS server to the switch and then connected another cable from the 2nd nic to the other server after installing the DHCP server role. There was no connectivity. Am I going about this all wrong or do I just not have it configured correctly? Thanks.

If you are connecting one nic in one computer directly to a nic in a different computer you will need a Cross-over cable as a standard patch cable will not work in that configuration

Thanks for that info, mntsnow. I just thought...why should I do that? That doesn't make sense. I decided that I should plug the direct connection from the other router to the DNS server and then make the other nic go to the 5 port switch. Then everything on the switch that I hook up would be protected and I wouldn't need a crossover cable. I'm having a bit of a problem though. I can't figure out how to get it to work correctly. How exactly do I configure the second nic and what do I need to configure in the DHCP role manager?
