GA-7DPXDW+ motherboard.
2400xp x 2

I have not made the mod yet and I have the two processors mounted on board and when I try to start all the fans spin for one second and everything stops. The red light on board stays on but any attempt to start again produces no response. If I pull power completely then I can repeat above.
My question is how should this board respond to two xp processors? Shouldn't it POST with error or does it require mp to even POST? Or do I have other problems?

Welcome to XPC DoubleDip.

I have two modded XP 2400+ chips running in a GA-7DPXDW (not the plus model) and running the F7 bios update and works just fine. The Gigabyte dually is designed to work with MP's and has no official support for xp chips so as for if it would even complete a post I havent even tried. I do have a 7DPXDW+ that has my MP2000+ chips in it and again I've never tried to run unmoddified XP chips on it.

At this moment I would suggest trying to boot the board with SINGLE chips (of course in the CPU-0 socket) and see what occures. If still nothing but you have verified that the chips themselves work fine in a standard mobo then I would say the gigabyte board is going to require your chips to be modified before it is capable of booting them.

Thanks Mntsnow,
I just pulled two mp 1700's out of my Tyan setup and put them in the GB and I got the same result. I've tried with three different mem. simms also so I'm thinking the board arrived here toast. Man I hate ordering across inet.

Sorry to hear that :( Yep that is one of the drawbacks of shopping "non locally"

that could be settings in the bios

try resetting the cmos....

my smp ecs d6vaa board did the same thing when i first booted after i got it off ebay. in the bios the ram was set up for high performance, and my ram is low performance

or feel for hot circuits, maybe unplug the fans and try to boot, (id be thinking i just spent money on this thing, its going to work)

I have had similar problems (with different boards) but different outcomes.
The first problem was because the cables leading to the on/off and reset buttons (etc.) were in backwards. I had to reverse them.

The second problem was dealing with a power supply that didn't like being connected to a fan controller (front panel type) and when I disconnected it, it worked. Weird one there.

I would suggest removing everything except the PSU, mobo/cpu, memory, and video card only.

This could be the power supply shorting out. You should first try removing all unnecessary peripherals and unplugging all the drives.

See if you get at least the BIOS screen with only motherboard, CPUs, RAM, and Video card. If you get the BIOS screen then connect one device at a time. If the problem persists remove the Video card to see if you get the BIOS beep code. If no beep code then removes the RAM you should get a beep code.

If the problem persists and you do not get beep codes it is most likely your motherboard.
