i have tried both multiplayer versions of gta (gtat and multi theft auto) and if your interested in LAN or online play of GTA3 or vice city heres what you can expect
both tested via 2x100MB bridged LAN
GTAT (Grand Theft Auto Tournament)

with this one both players start at the airport and there is only a select few cars that you can only get at the air port, needless to say, if you stray too far from the airport this version will get boring real quick
it's very glitchy at the moment but i still say they are doing a top job for a game not originally designed for multiplayer.
that said i would probably wait for a later version of this mod

this is glitchy as well but a lot more fun.
with cars spread throughout your map (use your taget button to bring up icons of car locations on your radar),its important to note that neither version at this point of time have no computer controlled pedestrians for bandwidth purposes, so get a few friends if you want a real rampage.
a lot of the time i was bashing my brother in my screen and he was bashing me in his but neither one of us was fighting back in each others screen (i dont know if this is fixed in the new 0.22 version)
weapons are also widespred through the map so this is the version i'd recommend until GTA World Online comes out http://www.gtaworldonline.tk/
