Whining from Monitor

Recently I've noticed that one of my monitors emits this very high pitched whining when it's turned on. It's not piercing loud... but more like a dog whistle loud...

Any idea what causes this, and how to fix it?? TIA

What is your monitor refresh rate at now? I've seen some monitors that emit these high pitch whines at certain refresh rates even if the monitor supports this refresh rate. Try decreasing the refresh rate one notch down and see if the noise still persists...

My Sony one did it months ago, I tapped it gently a few times and it never did it again

NDC hit it right on the money. Change your refresh rate to another compatible setting. This solved the problem for me, and I had the same symptoms with my monitor (which BTW is a 17" Sony Trinitron reviewed in the XPC Review Section). Give that a try, and if after several weeks, even months it happens again...just do the same thing and change ur refresh rate.

Thanks guys. I couldn't find where to change the refresh (it's a win95 system), but I changed the resolution and the whining stopped. Rather increase the resolution than decrease, so now it's at 1152x864. But that's ok. Thanks again, everyone!
