Grrrr It's at it again! The dumb board that made me have to hate the Abit company.

History....
I would not boot, or beep.
unplug it,,
then got to unplug it for a long time... and it would boot,,,
then got to... take the board out take it for a ride in the car threatening to send it to the shop ... and it would boot,,,

Finally I ran Simm Tester on it diagnosed a bad stick of ram and when I finally put it back together it worked...

Now.. after wrapping some cables I ended up having to pull a stick to get it to boot..

And it's started ... all over again...

Any other ideas?

Dunno but the RAM slot/s sound suspect to me.

Is there another program for testing memory?
I ran a test last night and it passed..

I wonder if it could be the powersupply? Strange things happen when the PS isn't behaving. I know that you have a few computers Surreal maybe swap a PS?

XP boot files won't allow you to boot to DOS and run a memory tester.
Hmm what am I missing here. Doc memory enabled me to boot to the disk...

Now the board is in a different box with a different power supply.

I think it's just trying to make me crazy,, but it can't cause I already am !!

I give up, I pulled out a piece of cheesy ram (it tested good) and now all is well... sheesh.

Sounds like you really like the company.. :D

I'm glad. My b/f just bought the Abit raid board, what ever the new one is... I just cringed but I kept my mouth shut..
(no small feat let me tell ya! ) I'm hearing by your comment you think they are good boards,, I sure hope he didn't get a stinker it's his first AMD board too.. :D
He's an Intel kinda guy.. ;)

Hehe, its really just bad luck that you've had. It sounds to me like the board wasn't the problem at all, but a stick of ram that liked getting under your skin :)

Abit boards are the best on the market in my opinion, I just recently advised a friend of mine on all the parts for a new system, which included an AthlonXP 1800+ and Abit KR7A-133 Raid, and let me tell you, the thing is a speed demon!

I run an older SDRAM based abit as well, I use a KT7A, and I love it! Overclocks great and is very stable. :D

I like Abit boards but I probably won't buy one again. There is too many bad from stock. I think they are asking too much for them too. There is sooo many choices out there nowadays.

Personally, I've had good luck with ABIT and will continue to use them.

My first ABIT mainboard is a BE6-II which is like 3 or 4 years old this board simply runs great! Currently it's running a Celeron 700Mhz @ 945Mhz with default voltage. Another is a KT7A-RAID which was running a T-Bird 1Ghz @ 1.4Ghz with default voltages as well. I dropped the clock speed back to 1Ghz after running it this way for over a year or so. I rarely use this system so I saw no point in overclocking it. One thing I noticed is that you can get acceptable overclocks using ABIT mainboards without the need for more juice which has been the case for me on many ABIT mainboards as well as BX-133...

My first Athlon was on an FIC board. It was total junk. I RMA'd it & they sent me an ABIT, and I've been up & runnin' ever since.

HOWEVER: Athlon boards are very finicky about memory. I've used Mushkin, Micron & Corsair with perfect success. Every bargain brand I've tried has been trouble in Athlon PCs.

I never had an Athlon until I got the ECS board I have now and a 1.4 bird..

I've always had Durons.. Yep that's me siding with the underdog. :D

I'm sure the same comment about memory applies to Durons too.

I also have a KT7A-RAID running a 1 gig Athlon @1.2gig, KT7A no raid on my 1.3 TBird @1.3 because it runs pretty hot with UD running it at full load 52c, and a ECS board running my 950 Durron running @1050 and have had great luck with all 3

I've never had the pleasure in working with an ABIT mobo, I hope that will change soon.
My personal experience has been with dozens of generic mobo's, Epox, MSI, mobo's with Intel & SiS chipsets, and a few others (customer's of mine whose computers I've worked with).
