Are they that paranoid that they do not allow tools in luggage anymore?
It's a good thing her ride was still there because I don't know what she would have done with them if not. They are not exactly cheap being snap-on.
And people wonder why I choose to drive.

I must have deleted part of the post.
When my wife flew home she had some wrench's in her luggage. The airlines told her that they could not be in her luggage. If her ride would not have still been at the airport I don't know what she would have done with them.
The airlines are paranoid. What if someone were flying somewhere to do some work and needed tools? Are they supposed to fedex them?
I think its ok as long as you check the luggage through. You just can't carry them with you.

As long as Airlines will allow me to carry on bottles of wine and liquor and BIC lighters their security will remain a complete joke.

RK, no, it 's not ok. At least not on SW airlines.
They were in her suitcase. When they searched her luggage and found them she was told they were not allowed on the plane. She was giving no explanation. It was not debatable.
I will continue to drive wherever I go. I can't stand commercial flights and have not been on one myself since 94'.

She was giving no explanation.
Well then she needed to get a supervisor/manager involved...
When I can check firearms that are in a locked travel case then I see no problem with "tools" that are in a locked travel case that are "checked" ...but if they were in a carry-on then the screeners did what they were supposed to to do...
Thats just simply scary mholtum....but Air Travel will never be totally safe..It never has been and never will be..
That is ridiculous. I usually do carry tools in my luggage when I fly....I hope they dont get carried away with this crap.
I think they should make it mandatory for all people TOO carry weapons on a plane. ;)

If air lines would allow licensed persons to carry on airlines do you think it would be safer?
I sure as hell do..
Could you imagine a terrorist pulling out a gun and having 1/2 the passangers also pull?
I know you, like me, Mike would pull on a terrorist if you were allowed to carry..
Checking firearms in and having to declare them, to me is insane. I agree that I should have to pack them away (according to current law) but declare them? Jesus, Mike, have you ever had firearms stolen? I have.
I lost, gee big surprize, 3 H&K USP45TAC (LEM's) High capacity .. BECAUSE I DECLARED them and they stick their big *** stickers on the luggage.. Some ^&^&*(*& baggage thrower has them now. And because the were valued at over $1000, all i got was $1000. Fair trade? $2500 in guns for $1000?
Yea, I am still ****ed!

Yeah it sucks but when I had to travel out of state for a competition there was nothing else I could do but insure them and cross my fingers that both I and my firearms arrived at the same place at the same time!
I say if you have to declare them...let every one declare them in a holster on their side.

I would agree that they did not engage the right person.
AFAIK there is no limit on what you can check, with the exception of things like explosives and some pressurized things. I would call Southwest and get clarification and get them to pick up the cost of shipping them to her.
Snow, I sent you mail. Can I not be under 13 anymore?

SJ thats a good idea.
I agree she should have spoke to a supervisor or manager. I certainly would have.
The last time my wife flew she had a $200 baby stroller damaged. I witnessed the women throw it down the stairs. Never got reimbursed for it either. I raised hell at the airport and got nothing accomplished. After numerous calls it became too much of a hassle to try and get them to replace/repair it. That time she flew AA.
I hate to fly but for some reason I don't mind flying in small planes. Next time we are in FL I'd like to take the kids down to Fort Jefferson (http://www.fortjefferson.com/home.htm) via seaplane for a couple days of camping .
Could you imagine a terrorist pulling out a gun and having 1/2 the passengers also pull?
No! I can't imagine that at all. How would anyone know who were hijackers and who were not? Not to mention what happens if a window gets shot out at high altitude.
Way better that they don't allow guns on a plane except in checked luggage. :)

LOL I agree it has a certain romantic appeal if not all together practical :)
