That's because the New York media conglomerate set Oct. 16 as the official date for its name change. The company said last month it would drop "AOL" from its corporate name in favor of Time Warner. Time Warner stock will begin trading under ticker TWX as of that date, replacing the current AOL symbol.
The name change highlights the diminishing hopes for the America Online unit. And ironically, the shift comes just as the fortunes for online properties across the media world -- including the greater AOL Time Warner constellation -- appear to be in the early stages of a long-awaited recovery. On Monday, AOL Time Warner shares rose 21 cents to $15.94.
