View Full Version : ati radeon 9800 overclocking
i just bought an ati radeon 9800 non-pro off of newegg.com with my new system. all the reviews ive read and people ive talked to say its rather easy to flash the BIOS to make it run as a 9800 pro. (which im not sure how to do). i installed rage 3d which acheived the same effect, but im not sure about how this differs from the flashing the BIOS. does anybody know the differences between the two, and which id be better off doing. how do i go about flashing BIOS?
I wouldnt flash it just yet. I have seen nightmares where someone flashed a card with a bios that should have worked, then didnt...and then they couldnt put their opriginal bios back on. Unless you can verify the exact card and card revision you have will work with a specific 9800 Pro bios, your better off just overclocking it.
Heck, do what I did to my old 9700 Pro...buy a Zalman heatpipe cooler, put heatsinks on the memory chips, volt mod the mem/core and clock the **** out of it. (make sure you have decent ventilation in hte case, preferrably a side cover fan blowing onto the video card.
BTW: I have the 9700 running at 400/360 running Omega's 9800 Pro drivers ( www.omegacorner.com ). If it wasnt for that...I would have bought a 9800 card like yours.
