When i sleep i hear everything, i mean like everything, i can dream and still hear what's going on, and i understand it, i forget most of it though, but i always remember like the last 30 minutes.

Before i though it wasn't much, however this morning something weird happened.

I went to bed late as normal... anyway i was still supposed to sleep for another 2-3 hours or something.
So i was dreaming, and i heard the phone going, at this time i was still dreaming, also you don't wake up from a phone unless it's going on for along time or is close to you, which neither was the case.
Anyway i knew i had to go one of these days to this guy, so i heard my mom saying that she would call me and before she was at my room i was clear awake.
Now ofcourse the phone could of caused me to wake up, but i know i wasn't waken up yet at that time.

This is also not the first time, this is happening all time, i hear the things that is going on around me and still dream, untill i open my eyes i keep dreaming, even though i know and hear what's going on.
Really, really weird.

Anyone ever had this or heard about something similair?

I think I know what your talking about. I am aware of everything around me when I am sleeping. I've slept for hours while listening to what is going on around me. I'm just hard to wake up cause I don't sleep enough.

I can sleep through the loudest noise and not even awake but if my fan goes off like power blink I'm wide awake. I have to have a fan on to sleep or I can't sleep at all. BTW have you ever tried to find a nice fan in the middle of winter when your other one dies. I spent $29 on a $10 fan last winter but I have a backup now.

I do sleep through everything, because i'm aware of what is happening but i'm also sleeping, i can sleep for hours while still hearing things, so it's certainly not affecting my sleeping in a way that i sleep to little.

I also can't say i care that much about it, but i find it odd nonetheless, i never had this before, i have this for like a month now.

I incorporate sounds I hear into my dreams all the time. That's a fairly normal occurrence.

Something weird that I do (and I've heard many others speak of doing the same) is often I'll wake up right before my alarm goes off. Like within a minute or two. I don't understand how this happens considering I don't really have any routine schedule. Sometimes I need to get up as early as 4am and other days maybe as late as 9am, or anytime in between.

I really really hate being woken up by an annoying alarm clock, so I can understand why my body wants me to be awake so I can turn it off before it has a chance to annoy me. What I don't understand is how the heck can I know what time it is when I'm asleep?

And how does my body just turn off sleep-mode like that? If I am forced into waking when I'm not ready then it takes me at least half an hour to shake off the grogginess. But when I just wake myself up, like right before the alarm goes off, then I'm just instantly awake. I'm aware and feel normal. Very bizarre.

Don't use a alarm clock then, well not 1 that makes a annoying sound, get 1 with radio or even better cd so that you can decide yourself with what to wake up.

That really is unusual Gohan. I've never yet had that happen.

For me, the only thing that can keep me awake is if my thoughts keep churning. Nothing else will. It's not hard to wake me up, but things that aren't supposed to wake me up won't. Not only will a bad t-storm not wake me up, if I do happen to wake up naturally during one, I can easily fall asleep again.

Don't use a alarm clock then, well not 1 that makes a annoying sound, get 1 with radio or even better cd so that you can decide yourself with what to wake up. I don't think OuT's problem is any alarm clock in particular, it's being rudely awakened by something other than himself. It can be really bad depending on what part of your sleep cycle you're in. A few days ago my arlarm hit me when I was in the "deep sleep" part of the cycle, and I was wasted all day, even though I got plenty of sleep (7+ hours). Felt like a zombie, and dizzy.

Hey this is a really odd thing to happen to you. I think it could be something to do with your thoughts try clearing your head before you sleep, do this by having a chat with someone or writting all your inner thoughts down.

Welcome to XPC, lizzie! :)

Gohan, all kinds of change can affect your sleep pattern.

In the past, I could ( and did!) sleep through a hurricane, and the house being burgled, with the dog going berserk and barking / scratching the bedroom door.

Since the birth of my toddler, if he turns over in his bed or sighs, I hear this on the monitor and am awakened!

I clear my mind alot, and it's alot more clear then it was months ago.

As for the alarm clock, a beep is most annoying, the thing is that if you are dreaming and your alarm clock goes off and your not awake right away then you will be dreaming about a alarm clock going off, or something similiar, when you wake up you will be tired and annoyed, certainly when you still hear that sound.
I once got awake by my brother playing music, and when i woke up i had the feeling i had been dreaming about a certain part of that song for hours, while it was only a couple of minutes.

In any case if you are waking up by the sound of a alarm clock then it will be annoying because your hearing the constant beep sound, if you are playing music to wake up then this won't be the case, and you won't wake up by a annoying sound but a more pleasant sound.

Anyway that's my expierence, i tryed a alarm clock for sometime and it really got me annoyed... never been as bad as my dad waking me up though, he didn't liked me using music for waking me up because i need to turn it pretty loud, so my dad didn't liked it, so he went and wake me up every morning, but if i slept to short then i couldn't come up and mostly sleep through him calling me. I said yes to him that i was awake but i really wasn't, so while he got annoyed to come for the third time to call me i was annoyed because he was raising his voice so high, and he gets easily annoyed if he hadn't had his coffee yet so those weren't the most pleasant mornings lol.

Oh and welcome to XPC lizzie. :)

This could be a great tool! You could learn in your sleep with audio! If you hear it enough to remember 30 minutes of stuff while you're asleep, then this could be useful! Very interesting!

You need a white noise generator or something, Gohan.

Maybe a nice whirring computer fan would do it! ;)

...might also help your FAD score as well. :D

That happens when you are in the Alpha stage of sleep. You are clinically sleeping but aware of your surroundings. I have it happen all the time. I also never use an alarm and can wake at any time I decide to before I go to bed....

Hey i'm still trying to get to sleep lol.

Btw size=2 is the same size as your normal post, you need size=1 for smaller or size=3 for bigger.

I always wake up 3 seconds before my alarm clock sounds. My reaction is to slam the clock, hope I slammed the right button, and go back to sleep for another half-hour (even if I were late).

I don't incorporate my surrondings into my dreams though.
