View Full Version : WIN98SE: Deleting old profiles?
I need to create a user account on a WIN98SE machine. But when I enter the username, it gives me a message saying that this user has logged on before, please enter password. I tried several passwords which I was sure I used for that username, but it doesn't accept them.
So how can I delete this old profile so that it doesn't recognize it as a previous user? TIA.

Indeed, that is an odd case.
Log in under ur normal username, and go to Control Panel--Users, and it should display the list of users on that machine. Select the one you want to delete, and delete it.
Make sure that when you setup a new user, remember the password and the settings.
Since I'm working in WinXP right now, I'm going by memory but if you can also access the user accounts by going under your Windows directory, and under the All Users folder where you should see folders for each user.
Keep me posted on the outcome.
That's the weird thing, I've gone into the Control Panel > Users section, but the username I am trying to (re?)create is NOT listed there. I don't see this username in the windows folder either...? Is it possible to search & destroy it in the registry?

Oops! Sorry. It was still set to my old @home.com email. Address has been updated.

Thanks :)
Also look in the WINDOWS directory for a .pwl file with the user name. Delete it.
