I recently bought a Tyan Tiger MPX S2466, along with 2 AMD MP 2400+ processors and two sticks of VM 512MB DDR PC2100 Ram (major brand) from a local supplier.

I assembled the parts in an ATX case with 400w power supply, it would not go to post. I returned the parts, and the vendor replaced the mainboard saying it was at fault. I returned home, assembled again and still no post. Once again returned and came away with 2 new CP's....still will not work.......!

Returned the goods once more and booked in for 3 days to test everything.....

On the second day I was contacted by the returns manager who told me I had damaged a CPU and this in turn has damaged the MObo so warranty was null and void.....

I argued the case and got nowhere....I now have around £400 of parts that don't work...they even gave me back a MP processor with a chipped die that they claim I caused.

I have sought advice and hope to get my money returned.

The thing that I need to know is what caused all this in the first place?....I assembled the new components extremely carefully taking all precautions when handling the CPU's etc........

I have built many PC's over the years etc....

Was this whole problem down to memory....??

The Tyan board will still boot with the single MP CPU2 socket......but still no post...the memory works fine in a dual Asus A7M266-D mobo system that I am on at the moment.

I know that the Tyan board will boot with an XP processor but I am reluctant to try this as the board could very well be damaged.

If so I did not cause any damage to the board, rather the vendor got fed up and passed the blame onto me.....

Any ideas...??:(

Sorry but Since I have no vendor contacts in the UK I'm at a loss at what to suggest other than to ship the board off to Tyan and have them test the board....They can tell you if the board is fine or not and if it isnt they can fix it... As for the CPU's unless you had the serial #'s written down there will not be any way for you to prove that your vendor switched them on you... Sorry :(

If your processors and motherboard are not defective and you know this for a fact and the system was not posting, there are explanations for this that may have been the culprit of the problem.

1. Did you try completely unplugging the system for about 10 seconds where no power flows through the motherboard and then powering on the system?

2. Did you try different memory?

Explanation to #1

From my past experience with this motherboard, from time to time when you shut down using the power button on the case rather than shutting down from Windows, it sometime powers on but refuses to post. Your fans, HDD, everything spins and whirs as usual, but no signal to the monitor and simply won't post. You'll hear the same thing from numerous TYAN TIGER MPX users.

Explanation to #2

Have you tried a different memory module? It's very possible your system did not post because of the type of memory you have. I experienced this just the other day with some memory I got from a buddy of mine. Kingston 512MB modules ran just fine on the Tiger MPX, but not these... No post.. Just spins and whirs....

I tried the memory I got from my buddy on my Tyan 17505 motherboard and booted just fine. Maybe Tiger MPX are picky about what memory you use?

Yup it could be the ram. Did you check all the obvious things like resetting the cmos, trying another vid card, etc.
