so what is the best of thebest now for a Barton 2800+? I haven't been keeping up and now i need something new to cool it. using the same HSF that I had on my 1400mhz athlon and its not doing as well as I want it to.

Well...Since I havent jumped on the Barton train yet I will defer my suggestions for a little bit as I know several active members of XPC are running bartons and will wait for them to hopefully see your question :)

Well SoopaStar, I have several--1 SLK900A,1SLK800,an 1 running a AREO 7+,also a Subzero4.The subzero does the best but it's pricey at 129.00.The best over all is the AREO7+.It cools as well as the slk900(with a 108cfm fan) and only cost me 29.00.( I bought 10) It's quieter and the fan on it eleminates the hot spot generated by most coolers. I just checked on 2 of my headless crew and 1-running a slk900/108cfm(very loud) is at 35C running FaD,1 AREO7 is at 36C running FaD. Both temps are taken with a thermal probe and both are not OCed yet.
If yer wanting the best bang fer yer buck I think the AREO 7 does the best.If yer wanting a really quiet one that does great and aren't scared by the price then it's the subzero4.
Hope this helps.

thanks! I have been considering the Aero7 for a while now. Guess that will be my next purchase!

While searching for the Aero7+, I stumbled across a similar product made by ThermalTake.
Thermaltake A4003D TR2
It has a similar fan, but their's revs to 4500RPM, whereas teh Aero7+ only goes to 3000 (right?). However, the Aero7 is copper where the T-take is aluminum with a copper core.
I can't decide which one I want to get. The Aero7 is aroudn $33 and the Ttake is $20. I need to get a better cooler, because my current setup has teh barton 2800's temps at 53 degrees C on full load (133+ F). Thats too hot for my liking.

I think either of the slk's will do well. I have an SLK-800, with a 80MM fan spacer (actually, it's a hollowed out broken UV reactive fan's casing) with a UV lighted 80 MM fan stacked on top of that. This fan arrangement greatly improved performance over the standard fan mounted directly on the heatsink and even eliminated a lot of noise from the fan (because it's no longer being loaded directly against the cooler.)
I havent tried the aero 7 so I cant testify to it..but it sounds good by the previous posters comments.
I run my XP3200 at 2.5GHz/1.7v with 41º average cpu die temp and 45º while playing D3D/OpenGL games.
It seems to cool best with a side cover fan blowing onto the cpu/heatsink area and the fans in the back of the case/top of the case blowing outward.

vantec aeroflow is also a nice hsf setup there price ranges from 23-28$ i have a few running . my oc'd 2500 11X185 , ram holding me back :( , never gets over 43 with FaD running on it all the time . and i live in the valley in ca so it got rather hot here this summer . i range from 36 c to 43c depending on the time of day . but now that we are getting into the colder time of the year i think hitting 43 will become rarer and rarer.

just ordered this:
http://www.enpc.com/cgi-bin/enpc/A4003.html?id=LPwj5spn&mv_pc=1709
Thermaltake TR2 M4 A4003D
I chose it over the Areo7 setup simply because the fan had a higher rating. I don't really care about noise. I'll see how the temps compare when I get it.
Now the current HSF can go to my next webserver project. Time to replace the dual celeron (OC'd 550mhz each), with a single Athlon (1700 or higher). :)

how discouraging. I got it installed and its not any better really, then my last one. The cooler itself was packaged very nicely, and looks awesome. Sorry i didn't take any photos, I was anxious to get it installed.
With the old cooler installed, my temps were around 114F with the case open on both sides and a fan blowing into the case, full load (crunching FAD for XPC of course).
With this cooler, and one side on on the case (window side), the temps are so far up to 122 degrees F. This is without the side exhaust fan on the window going. I plan on adding a top exhuast fan next week sometime. With both sides open and a fan blowing in, I get down to 102F (little better...)
I guess I will have to move the 2800 out of my midtower case and put it in the full tower where it used to be. The slightly smaller case really seems to hinder its cooling.

Change your side fan to blow into the case, you will drop temps instantly.
