I'm a sys ad in the USAF, so I'd like to think of myself as having a good grasp on computers but for whatever reason I can't figure my current blunder out.. I built my computer from scratch in May and the floppy drive has NEVER worked.. although it was a minor inconvienience, at the time I could care less since I RARELY used it.. fast forward a couple months and my girlfriend sometimes uses my computer to do her homework, only problem is she has to always burn her docs on a disc since my floppy won't work and it's begining to become a pain for her.. anyways, as I said the drive came with no drivers when I bought it and I don't even remember what brand it is (something generic though).. whenever I try to use it (putting the disc in the drive to access info) it says "Please Insert Disk Into Drive A:", even though in the Device Manager it appears to be working properly.. any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated..

Welcome to XPC ! :)
Have you double checked the ribbon cable connecting it?
And All the pins on the drive, sometimes they get bent or pushed in.
What Operating System are you using? Most generic floppy drives are set up with drivers from the OS!

Thanks for the welcome! :)
I've TRIPLE checked the ribbons (and pins) and I'm more than sure they're currect.. and I'm running XP..

have you tried a different ribbon cable? beyond a bad cable, bad floppy port on the mobo or a reversed cable the only thing left is a bad floppy drive.

is the end of the cable with the twist in it connected to the drive, not the mb?

Yeah, the twisted end is on the drive..
Now try it the other way around. I bet ya it will work... The twisted end goes to drive controller, not the drive itself..

I have always put the twisted end toward the drive myself.
Try loosening the screws that hold it into the case and see if it works that way.

I think you have a bad drive...Try the drive in a different system...get your buddy to put your drive in their system and test it
