HI Folks,
Im not in hurry to get this fixed, its more of an annoyance than anything. I am not sure I would call this a start up problem as the comptuer starts up fine. its After booting up that the problem shows up with my connection.
First Sys Specs.
Intel D815EEA Desktop board
Intel 800mzh CPU
30 gig HDD ( 4 partitions)
128 mb memory
CDRW
CDROM
Linksys 10/100 Nic Card
RCA 235 Cable Modem (Cat5e Cable used)
Win2kpro
Firewall: Free ZoneAlarm download
Upon boot up I have noticed that few of the chat programs are fine upon start up and connect immediately, however in the lower right corner by the clock where my connection icon is, it will not appear for several minutes. I must wait at least 5 minutes before this turns on before I am able to browse the internet. If i try to browse the internet before this icon shows up I will get no responds from the application being opened, and this is not limited to internet explorer. I have noticed that any application that I open even the control panel will not respond at all till this connection icon in the lower right hand corner appears. So I have to end the application and i get the nice little window that says. Application is not responding then two choices of end task and something else I always select end task and then wait for the connection icon to appear.
At some times I tend to think that the ZoneAlarm is preventing from this icon from showing up. But somehow I don't think that is the case. then again I keep changing my mind and see some sort of pattern with zonealarm but not quite sure if its this or something else causing it to do this. I have seriously contemplated changing firewalls due to this problem.
Once the icon shows up it works flawlessly and have no problems with the connection or opening up applications or anything. All the connection icon is the one that win2k pro provides when i select control panel/Network & Dial Up then select properties for the connection and select the box for "Show icon in task bar when connected" I just have noticed that untill icon shows up I can not browse the internet, however I can check email and use the chat programs installed.
