OK I've read through a number of threads here and elsewhere on the Cisco box and I don't seem to be getting where I want to be. I can't use the most recent one here, I don't want to bridge, I want to use NAT.

I have a Cisco 678 running CBOS 2.4.6 / DMT:

Cisco Broadband Operating System
CBOS (tm) 678 Software (C678-I-M), Version v2.4.6 - Release Software
Copyright (c) 1986-2001 by cisco Systems, Inc.
Compiled May 30 2002 15:39:32
DMT FULL firmware version G96
NVRAM image at 0x1030ed50

It was originally set up for use with Qwest but I have moved and can now take advantage of SBC Yahoo, but I'd like to use the Cisco instead of the modem they sent.

I have been able to hook up the Cisco and I'm getting a solid WAN LNK light, so according to Cisco that should mean that everything is just great! But I'm not progressing past that point.

Status looks like this:
cbos#show int wan0-0
WAN0-0 ATM Logical Port
PVC (VPI 0, VCI 35) is open.
ScalaRate set to Auto
AAL 5 UBR Traffic
PPP LCP State: Request Sent
PPP NCP State (IP Routing): Starting
PPP MRU: 2048 HDLC Framing: enabled MPOA Mode: VC Mux
PPP Login: <me>@sbcglobal.net
Authentication Type: Autodetecting/PAP
RADIUS: disabled
PPP Tx: 72 Rx: 0
Dest IP: 0.0.0.0
Dest Mask: 255.255.255.255
IP Port Enabled

cbos#show ppp
VC VPI/VCI STATE MRU USERNAME RADIUS TX RX
wan0-0 00/35 Request Sent 2048 <me>@sbcglobal.net disabled 90 0

(Note I've tried VCI of 32 or 35; have to say I don't know whether that matters or not but tried both, no avail).

Attempting to ping somewhere from the cbos prompt doesn't work. I take the "Request Sent" status and no RX'd packets to be a bad sign.

Does this mean I have a name/password problem? Or some other authentication problem? Or what???

Thanks much!

No replies?
Someone suggested on another forum that I try a setup that I've tried already a few times. Only difference after doing this was I did receive some packets per the show ppp command. But still not routing traffic.

Would love to have some help with this! Thanks much!

Sorry NearTheSea....I've come up blank on finding anything about using the Cisco 678 in NAT with YahooDSL. I didnt want to start suggesting settings without having some idea of the Yahoo Nat setups...

but you are saying it seems to be "trained" up to the DSL connection but your unable to pass packets that would cause me to think your networking settings are incorrect and or unable to authenticate

If your willing to post your information we might be able to shed more light.

what is your running config of the 678?

But I keep thinking about this...Yahoo uses PPPoE.....The 678 does not do PPPoE authentication so you might be locked into using the 678 in bridging mode and use something like a linksys dsl/cable router to do the actual authentication which also is a NAT router

Thanks! Doh! Well, without PPPoE then I guess I'm SOL. Given I already have a router and I have a DSL modem, why would I want to use the Cisco in bridging mode? What advantage does it have over a DSL modem at that point?
Thx

Truthfully not much in a home network situation....
