hi all just built my first pc had a few hicups can anyone tell me if it is normal for mobo temp to be a bit higher than cpu temp

i have a asus s800 800 fsb
p4 2.4 800 fsb
one case fan at back
leadtek winfast agp card a280 le tdh
my agp card temp is arround 50 deg
mobo at 35 deg
cpu at 30 deg

is it because i have a high temp on the agp gard that is making the mobo hotter than cpu

also when i used sisoft sandra 2003 it said that fsb exceeds chipset rated speed reduce fsb

so i did this but it still puts up the same thing everytime i do the test

in another forum i was told it might be sissoft sandra giving false info because it might not be fully compatible with 800 fsb

also was told this is what might be making my mobo hotter because chipset having to work harder

can anyone shed a light on this

also during a thunder storm electrick went of and straight back on but pc would not boot up it was getting power because led was lit up on mobo but would not switch on waited 5 min then switched on ok i had a surge protector attached

do you think it could be a safety device in mobo or power supply

or could it have done any damage

sorry for so many qustions

thanks steve

Welcome to XPC Steve!

by chance what monitoring tool/utility are you using?

hi im using the one that came with the mobo to get my temps this is called asus probe.

the one that tells me i have to high fsb is sisoft sandra 2003

and my bios also reports these temps

to get the temp reading for the agp card im using the software that came with the package to monitor this and this is called winfox i think

thanks for your reply
cheers

well as for Sandra I would ignore that "warning" since you do have a 800mhz chip and the board is rated for it :)

as for the vid card temps that is getting to be pretty warm for sure. how good is the ventalation in your system? it would seem to me that your fan/heatsink is not turning very much or is not getting fresh cool air.

A reason why your Mobo temp is reading higher than your chip could be caused by hot air being blown from other devices on to the mobo's monitoring location. again I would have to ask how good is the air flow inside your computer case.

lastly why your system didnt seem to want to start could have been from a thermal interlock that some powersupplies have where it wont actually power on until it's cooled off.

thanks for your reply i have just got one fan at rear blowing air out i am thinking of getting another one to put at rear and put this one lower down more inline with the agp card the card has got its own fan and heatsink and i was wondering if because the agp card is hot that this is being transfered to mobo. hope it is some sort of a built in shutdown for power supply very scary when you have just built something and it goes off and dont come back on for a while. acording to leadtek the maker of my agp card it can run safely at 70 deg seems a bit high to me lol
once again thanks for your input

Yes many Power supplies now days have a Thermal interupt. When they get hot they will shutdown and not allow power to be restored until they have cooled off.

Probably would be a good idea to toss another fan in and get some increase air flow thru your case (also double check your power supply fan to make sure it's blowing OUT instead of sucking air into it :)

Well, that's good it was the power outage and not overheating. You may be able to set it up in your BIOS so that the PC reboots when the power comes back on. More fans are always a good thing though. IMO, you can never have too many fans! :D Maybe you should look into a UPS too.
