--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When I try to send files to my R\W drive a pop-up tells me that I need to place a disk into the drive. There is a disk in the drive, but the system can't see it. So what gives? How do I fix this?
Thanks

Maybe the media has a problem? - could be dust - or a scratch.

Or open the bay door - use your software to hit the file transfer - and make the software tell you to close the door. The CDR will spin up and should read correctly. if not - look for a CD test program - what you want is to read the cd. check data transfer.

Finally - Welcome - I should have said that first but - oh well!

What program are you using - and what version. Opsys as well would help.

Cheers - C

Welcome to XPC Davehries!

What cd burning software do you have installed? What OS? Only XP has support for drag and drop cd burning (and flaky at best) If using EZCD Creator do you have DirectCD installed and running in the background? If Nero do you have "InCD" running?

Thanks for the response.
I am running WinXP on a Sony Vaio computer with 512 RAM and it has a Sony CD R\W drive. The only software that I have ever used is the XP Wizard for burning CDs. It worked fine, at least until recently.
I can see files on the on a disk and I can open them, but when I try to send files to the drive I get "There is no disk in drive" Crazy!!!

Also, I just ran a Search and discovered that I have the following on my computer -
DirectCD.HTM and Direct Cd.TXT
These would seem to be of know problem, but could there be the Direct CD program running?

the DirectCD is part of the underlying process for the packet writing (Drag and Drop). Is the CD you have in the drive a CDRW or just a CDR? Do you think you might have "Closed" the cd cause if you did and it's a CDR you wont be able to write to anymore.

Do you not have any other CD burning software on your system?

It is a Rewritable Cd and I have tried several different disk. No luck!
Something that I just thought of. A while ago, I installed CDBurnerXP Pro (Freeware) and then I removed it. Could something have been installed and not removed that is causing the problem?

That is a possablity or during it's removal it deleted something that was there beore it. Can you do a "sfc /scannow" without the quotes at the command prompt and have it check the core system files

Thanks for the tip.
I just ran scannow and it still has the same problem. I can read disks, but I can't write to them. Could it be in the registry?

Do you have a regular CD burning program? If so try reinstalling it. as for a registry setting I'm not sure..

Thanks for the advise.
I reinstalled CDBurnXP Pro and guess what? It works great!
P.S. This is a Freeware program.
Only question I have is - What happened to WinXP CD Wrtier Wizard? Why did it stop working? Just one of those computer unknowns I guess.
Thanks again for your help.
Dave

My thoughts are something got buggered and the reinstall of the burning app was able to overwrite and or repair whatever was hosed.

Glad it's up and working for you again! Enjoy!
