I've set up a network at our church, there are currently 5 computers and a server. I have the dhcp and DNS coming from the linksys router.

Each computer is set so it logs on domain (but can be set to local also). My problem though is adding users to the computer when using the domain. I get "The user could not be added because the following error has occurred: the trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed."

the users that I want to add are in active directory also.

What am I doing wrong?

Welcome to XPC Exzelbar!

By chance have you looked in the event viewer and looked at the logs yet? What is the error code #?

Some of the most common problems stem from bad dns.

Do you also have the actual computers setup in active directory as well?

My problem though is adding users to the computer when using the domain...
I do not quite understand what you mean, but here it goes anyway...
To add user to the Domain, you need to use Active Directory Users and Computers (if you use Win2000 Srv). For NT4 srv, I can't remember how it's called (someone helps me out here???) - maybe sthg like Users for Domain
Once this is done, you can also add the Computer Account before you add the workstation to the domain. This is not a required step as the computer account can be added automatically when you join the domain.

Once the user and computer account have been created, you can log onto the Domain.

Hope that helps

Stan

I can log onto domain, but when I try security tasks, through it only shows the local computer in the selection area:
control panel-admin tools-local security policy-local policies-user rights assignments-Add user- locations button. there is only the local computer displayed, not the local computer AND entire directory. this happens whether I log in on the domain or in the local computer
My security features work if i leave it set as the "local computer" (permitting only certain users) but not when logged into the domain.
any thoughts?

Well unless your a member of the Domain Administrators Group you will not be allowed access to those settings.
