If so, what brand and model do you use?

Yes - after last year - getting nailed almost every night for a month with lightening and losing two of 4 machines to it. The boxes are on ups - monitors are on surge - and the phone lines get pulled off when it gets nasty.
Models - I will edit in later - I went with minimal setups. Just enough to take a hit - and keep running.

I never had a problem with power outtages when I lived in Ma. but since my recent move I do believe I will be investing in a few of them now. What would you consider to be a good brand for a home user?
No UPS here...
I almost bought one (Belkin 625VA) but I changed my mind at the last minute as I've never had any problems.
Everything is surge protected though...

Spyder - as you can see Mntsnow uses APC mostly - and so do I - as for size of the unit - I just spec'd it to have enough time to do a proper shutdown without crashing everything.
I live in a really rural area - so I can hear the UPS fire up - and then hear the thunder as the lightening takes effect.
If I was in a more urban setting - I might be a little less willing to toss the money for these.
All my machines had been on surge before this as well - but the bumping power created issues. Especially when it ran into smoking gear.

APC Smart-UPS 1000VA
Got my monitor and PC connected to it with room to add another PC in the future.
Haven't had a power cut since getting it but it trims the voltage a lot, regardless of voltage sensitivity I think.

Yep I love my APC ups systems. btw the conext ups' are made by APC and are their "generic" brand.
As for size of UPS to get you can figure out the apx wattage your system needs (include the monitor!) and then figure out how long a run time you want/need. I also suggest adding in atleast 20% overhead for future growth to handle new HD's or additional items added to your ups so you have some room to grow :) APC has a slick ups selector to help you figure out what models fit your needs at http://www.apcc.com/template/size/apc/

I have 1 Belkin model # F6C120-UNV with the server, modem, router, and monitor on it.
I would like to get another one for the workstation and the monitor to take the load off the other if the power goes out.

I use a Back-UPS RS 1000VA (http://www.apcc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=BR1000&language=en&LOCAL.APCCountryCode=ww)
I've never had power outages in my area either. The main reason I got it is to protect my system from surges, spikes, etc for my electrical line and telephone line for my DSL connection. And if there is a power outage, I will be prepared...

I'll be adding one this week for my web server inmy house. going on my honeymoon next week and want to makre sure it stays up. sams club has a 1100 APC model for $110 or so and I will probably go with that. Says it can stay up for nearly 120 minutes, so i estimate 30 minutes for my two pc's and cable modem.

the purpose of a ups is so that u can have time to power down your system correct?
but if you're not home how does having your system on a ups help?
Each UPS comes with its own software suite that will shut down your server/workstation gracefully in case of a power failure.
The UPS is connected to the server either via a serial or USB connection.

I doubt it the battery would give you that much uptime. It would depend on the number of devices plugged into the battery outlets and the amount of power your monitor and system uses. I believe their estimated uptime is based on the lowest power consuming devices as possible. Perhaps a 15" LCD monitor and a system with just the bare essentials.
I'm using a 1000VA / 600W UPS with a 21" monitor and a dual processor system with no other devices on the battery backup and here is the estimated uptime:

Yep. I use a Connext, which I believe is a rebadged APC.

You are correct Endo...Conext is the generic line of APC. The shutdown software that comes with it is a APC disk and is labeled with the powerchute logo :)
Oh, I didn't know that. I was going to get a Conext CNB900 (http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product%5Fcode=282176&pfp=BROWSE). I might have gotten it if I knew it was a generic line of APC. Only thing that made me hesitate getting it was because I thought it wasn't a very known company for UPS and I may end up with a product that may no longer have support...

I have apcs, a belkin, and a couple of cyberpowers. All have done well so far...other than the normal worn out batts.
I have several (I mean too many). Usually buy them when I see a good rebate or someone has one with a dead battery and doesn't want it anymore. I give them out as presents. Everyone can use a UPS :). Use them for my TVs also, takes too long to redo/remember all the settings when the power goes out. Plus you can still watch TV when the power goes out. Very handy gadgets.

Check this out.... in the last 4 weeks I've had two times my UPS's have intervined on my behalf saving me from possible damage! and the latest one was just a few minutes ago and lasted over 16 mins!

Luckily, none of that here in Cali. I'm glad I have mine. Just feels so much better knowing that my hardware is protected. Beats having those $5 power strips they claim to protect your system! LOL
Mntsnow... I understand why you love your UPS!!!
