View Full Version : Question About Firewall
I'm currently running ZA which blocks incoming and outgoing traffic. I'm also running a D-Link router with the firewall enabled. Here is my question:
If I run just the router firewall which prohibits incoming traffic, will my system still be vulnerable? Correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn't the attacker first need to penetrate through my system incoming ports before they could steal, delete my files or plant a virus, etc? Or does having just the incoming ports protected make me vulnerable to atackers stealing, viewing, modifying, etc my files?

Your system is safe as long as you don't let a virus or trojan into your system... A virus/trojan still has to get activated on your system before it becomes truely compromised....

As Mike said.. make sure you're free of any malicious scripts, trojans, worms, virii, etc before you disengage the ZA... also, I'd make sure my router is properly config'd to not allow access... [i.e., dmz zone].. check all settings..
of course, you will not be able to monitor outgoing connections..
if you're going to disengage your ZA, might I suggest you install SpyBot which prevents the automatic loading of spyware that ZA doesn't catch, update your system to the latest SP and patches...
then again, if you want to monitor your ports, you can run ActivePorts or netstat
;)
Ok, cool. I just wanted to be sure. I've been having problems with ZA where the True Vector Engine Sevice dies during computer usage causing my system to reboot. I reloaded ZA Pro and hopefully this will solve the problem. And yes, I already have Spybot, NAV 2003, and the The Cleaner installed on my system so... Thanks for the replies...
Welp, it looks like the problem is back.... :( Doesn't look like I'm the only one with this problem though....
