Today has been a PITA...
:(
I have a Gigabyte GA-7VAXP, and figured it was time to use the 333 FSB. Out went the XP1600 and in went a Barton 2500+.
Booted fine..but was an "unknown processor" in properties..
Can't have that..sooo..I used the on line bios update they brag about. Booted as F13 Bios..the newest..then froze at the post page..after tearing what little hair I have out..I put the XP1600 back in..my hard drive is hooped..won't recognize command.com...won't boot from a floppy..no way for CD boot.
OK...I downloaded a copy of F13 and put it on a boot floppy and reflashed from dos..that worked..I think. Currently formatting a new 80 gig drive I had around to see if an install will work. Everything else freezes. Dual bios seems to be of little help here...
the 166 FSB seems to be missing now

Specs
GA-7VAXP
512 megs DDR 400
Ti4600
30 gig WD drive

anyone else have this problem?..and what did you do?
TIA

Well..after messing with the thing..I decided to try to force the dual bios to step in. Went in to the bios page..used the Qbios option and flashed to the old bios, but I had renamed it. Flash went well..rebooted...and huge beep..cmos wrong..the backup kicked in..and I was back to the F5 bios. Hooked up the original hard drive and it booted right up. Now..because I'm a glutton for punishment, I went to the Gigabyte site and downloaded the F11 bios..the second from newest with Barton support. Flashed from dos..............and..............
IT WORKS!!!

:D
