Hello,
I have a MSI K7N420Pro board with bad Lelon caps all over the board. It will not boot up. Totally shuts down after 5 seconds.
I have read up on how to replace the capacitors. I just need to know if what Iron to use. I found a great deal on a Weller Portasol PSI 100 Butane Soldering Iron.
Will that work?
Thanks,
z~z
You would be better off using a good temp controlled soldering iron such as a Weller WESD51 (http://www.wassco.com/wewedisost.html) such as I have. There are cheaper models that control temp of the tip but I have had great luck with my weller. also use a desolder bulb not chem-wix as chem-wix heats the board up to much and will make the traces come of the board then it reely gets hard reforming traces.

It will work but you will want to make sure you use a fine tip so not to make a mess during the soldering

Thanks for the advice!
I am debating wether or not I want to repair it myself
That WESD51 is close to the price of a new board. ;)
I emailed Gary Headlee about repairing it.
He never replied. He still in the motherboard repairing business?
Thanks,

Its not that hard to do. The investment is minimal.
I picked up a cheap soldering pencil and desolder vacumn tool from Radio Shack couple of years ago.
They have been more than adequate to do the job...:D
