Well, in relation to Tom's Hardware Guide posting their Overclock of the P4 2.2GHz to 3.1GHz....yet another group beat that OC and were able to reach ~3.7GHz!!!
Check it out HERE (http://www.muropaketti.com/artikkelit/cpu/northwood2200/ln2/index.phtml)
Talk about XTREME!:jaw:

Hehe One-up-man-ship got to love it in the o/c world! Tomorrow there will be a new record holder :D
So what kind of case do you put liquid nitro in LOL. I suppose this is one of those "don't try this at home".:bunny:
btw the new smilies are cool.

I wonder if we will EVER hit a limit for cpu frequency...just seems to keep going up. Just a year ago, a 1000mhz cpu made you go :jaw:.
Now they go well over 3000!! it's just insane...
slowly ticking on a 1gig athlon @ 1.16ghz here....heh, slowly...

Well, so far we've followed Moore's Law stating that every 18 months we'll have doubled a processor's speed. As we get closer and closer to that physical barrier measured in "microns", we'll eventually have to rely on molecular and organic computing. It looks like molecular computing has already been in testing phases for awhile: Click Here (http://www.xtremepccentral.com/article.php?sid=210). That's an article I did a couple of weeks ago, interesting topic.
BTW, don't worry I'm on an AMD T-Bird 1.2GHz, (getting ready to OC this baby :cooldude: ).

Overclock? why that's like stealing! ;)
Don't you know that's bad for the computer?
I mean say that you were to take a Hamster and put him on a treadmill......................................... ..

OMG, not the hampster...:jaw:
I don't see how that makes a world record...there is a Jap guy running one at over 4GHz right now.
I'll post a link to it if I can find it again.
I know how...
I think the 3675MHz Wcpuid-shot we were able to get can be considered as the overclocking world record at this moment (17/01/2002), but I'm pretty sure the Japanese will try to beat it as soon as possible :-)
This was on 17 Jan 2002, he was right...and the Japanese did beat it.
If you watch the Intel developer forum video...they show Intel running a CPU until it locks...it made it almost to 4.7 GHz.
Not bad for air cooled.

it may have been running at 4.7Ghz air cooled
but how long did they run it for
surely you couldnt run it air cooled on a day to day basis without glitches
They ran it in front of an audience at 100 % utilization, then they started moving the FSB up until it froze...and it was 4.7GHz when that occurred. This was done over a year ago...so I am sure they can easily beat 4.7GHz now.
Considering that was Intels top performing hand picked cpu, I'm not surprised at all. Most of the higher clocked Intel chips can OC very well. In fact, I took a stock 3.06GHz to over 3.6GHz with air cooling and only .2v over stock. (I had borrowed the chip so I gave it back). Thats like 20% OC on the already fastest cpu they had at the time.
In contrast, my XP3200 can barely overclock 200-300 MHz regardless of voltage.
