Welcome to XtremePcCentral!
Scanners supported by editing the registry:
1200 LP*
1200 III SP*
1200 ED*
ADVANCED USERS: (This should be attempted only if you are comfortable with the Windows Registry)
Start menu run program "Regedit.exe".
in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
rename the key "ProductName" from "Microsoft Windows XP" to "Microsoft Windows 2000".
Install the Mustek driver for Windows 2000.
Undo the changes in the Registry, when you have finished the scanner driver installation.
Drivers are found at http://www.mustek.com/Download/driv_scanr/english/1200ed.html
Enjoy using your scanner again :)

I also have a mustek 1200 ed scanner and windows xp .. i followed the instructions to alter the windows product name letter for letter.. but I've had no luck in installing the scanner for xp
I find that when I go to scan.. it shows a progress bar but the resulting image is black *i did put something to be scanned in the scanner!).. Im also finding in device manager through control panel that under imaging devices *Image* is displayed with an exclamation mark beside it (no driver installed for this device)...
and under scanners/cameras my scanner does not show up... It would be easy if MUstek just released the driver for XP.. since XP was the operating system of choice at the time this scanner was released... Does anyone know of any links to working versions of XP drivers for the scanner that work?
I have a Mustek 1200ED and haven't problems installing under Win2k or XP.. Currently running XP Pro... And BTW, 1200ED was released long before XP. I've had it since its first release...

NDC you must be very lucky to not have any problems.. mustek has 3 different versions of the driver to dload and the hassles involved in getting it to work are unbelievable - and judging by the amount of threads purporting to this there are a lot of others..
Im always wary when a company asks you to alter the product name of your operating system to get their driver to work!

How to Install Your Scanner in Windows XP
We offer a solution to install a Windows 2000 driver under Windows XP for Scanners.
Certain drivers are not fully supportive to the Windows XP, if you need to install them under Windows XP, please follow following steps:
1. Download the scanner driver for the Windows 2000.
2. Download Windows XP tool, a compatibility utility .
3. Execute the fixwinxp.exe. (Windows XP tool)
When you have selected the language, you'll see a pop-up window.
Please select Windows 2000 driver (for example: Run.EXE or web.EXE),
and follow the on-screen orders.
4. If you don't know how to install, Please download Instructions and refer to
WinXP_Install.html.

If you can't install XP-Tool, please follow these steps:
1. From the "Start" Menu, select "Run ..." and run "Regedit.exe", the registry editor.
2. Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion,
change "ProductName"'s value from "Microsoft Windows XP" to "Microsoft Windows
2000".
3. Install the Windows 2000 driver.
4. After a successful installation, please restore your original settings in Regedit.
I downloaded this Win2k driver on its first release long time ago and been using this same one ever since. I tried using that "fixwinxp.exe" just one time and it failed to work and that's all it took for me to not ever use that dowload. It's so easy to do it manually,
If you'd like, I can e-mail you the driver I've been using without any problems. just let me know if you want it..

i also tried all the solutions found here and on mustek international homepage....all failed, plus my windows started to hang up....
it would be so easy if mustek made a xp driver .i emailed them long ago, no answer ! i am looking for all the web to get a solution.
well i had a solution : i had both win98se and xp pro on my hd, win98se to use very old prog i thought i cannot use uder xp. when i finally understand all can be replaced with new versions, i dropped the 98. All work except the scanner !:( that S**** )
You did revert the registry key back to Windows XP as soon as you got the driver installed right?
I've done this countless times on Windows XP using Windows 2000 drivers so I know for a fact that works. It hasn't failed me once.
Here is what I've been doing:
1. Change the registry key from Windows XP to Windows 2000
2. Install the Windows 2000 driver and press NO when it asks me to reboot the system.
3. Change the registry back to Windows XP
4. Reboot the system manually through Windows

mustek finally emailed me the xp driver...
i gotta try once again. then i will retry the registry method.
i tried once and i used the fixwinxp.exe; windows found an unknow image device and nothing else.
other question when did u plug the lpt scanner ? after the drivers installation? at winxp reboot ?before win 2000 drivers
They e-mailed you an XP driver for the Mustek 1200ED? Or did you mean they e-mailed you a Windows 2000 driver and a the solution to getting it installed?
I keep the scanner plugged in at all times. Never mattered whether I have it installed or not before installing the driver. Just follow the exact steps I have posted above and let me know how it goes...

I downloaded Mustek 1200 ED Scanner Driver Windows 2000 version (I think it's version 3.5) from:
http://www.mustek.com.tw/Download/driv_scanr/english/1200ed.html
It comes with 4 files -- Web.EXE, Web.W02,Web.W03,Web.W04. When installing I noticed that it is the driver for Mustek Scanner 1200 ED
Plus. I searched other websites, and downloaded other zip files, they come with same set of files after unzipping. There is no driver file for Scanner 1200 ED.
After successfully installed the driver, the name "Mustek 1200 ED Plus" appeared on the drop down menu of Ulead Photo Express 3.0. I tried to preview or scan a photo, the process seemed going fine but with a strange and unclear result. From the url below please find a screenshot of my scanning result:

Anyone any idea please shed me some light, thanks a lot.
