I am looking for a very fast very reliable board as a replacement for my system. The Abit I have now is junk.

Athlon XP 2800+
Hercules 9700 Pro
WD 40GB 7200RPM HDD
512mb Corsair PC3500
430W Antec Power Supply
Abit KD-7 Raid

Any suggestions?

Welcome to XPC Syntax :)

I can wholeheartedly recommend Soyo, MSI and Gigabyte boards as I've enjoyed all that I have used from those manufacturers.

What other requirements do you require out of the motherboard such as

Raid?
Serial ATA?
On-board items such as Nic, Sound ect?
How many USB ports?
Firewire?

:)

NO raid, I need onboard sound and LAN. At least 2 USB ports. What is ATA? Beyond that I dont know much about mainboards. I just want something that complements my system well and I can rely on.

Well Serial ATA is the latest and greatest when it comes to "ide" type harddrives. (Faster interface and much smaller cables)

Well With On-board Sound and LAN I would suggest

Soyo SY-KT333 DRAGON Plus

MSI KT4 Ultra (MS-6590-010) this one doesnt come with Onboard lan though but adding one is easy :)

Gigabyte GA-7VAX One of my fav's for recient builds for customers

Ive been looking at the Soyo KT400 dragon lite. How does this mobo compare to the soyo above or the gigabyte?

The Dagon KT400 is great too. and actually with your Cpu would be a better choice than the kT333 I actually listed...I listed it as I just reciently built one with that board for my son and that thing is so stable!

The Abit NF7 2.0 and the Epox 8rda+ are the two best overclocking nForce2 mobos out there.

BTW, the nForce2 is the way to go as the best K7 platform.
