i dont know anything about pentiums, but my father has a 1ghz p4 that id like to redo the mobo and add some ddr ram. id like to keep the gateway atx case, and it needs onboard sound and video...he just does office type stuff. i need some recommendations on a mobo that fits the bill. nothing flashy just something stable and newer than 3 years, thats not going to have the memory leaks he has now.

Truthfully Bud if he is wanting to upgrade your better off also getting a new case along with the aftermarket motherboard as the Gateway case is very propriatary in nature. While I havent worked with any of the latest and greatest Gateways this has been a issue in the past....the same thing with Dell and Toshibia, Compaq, HP ect

Gateway uses standard cases. I use to build em. They're like gold to me.
www.pricewatch.com has some great deals on motherboard combos. One o' those, some ddr, and a new power supply and you're off to the races.

It was an honest question asking for advice on a good board. Sorry..I don't use Intel processors, so I can't offer any advice on that Blackwatch..I'm sure you will get some suggestions soon from people that use those procs.
But Bruno..if you have no helpful input..maybe you should keep it to yourself..

Standard case huh Bruno....If thats the case then I would wholeheartedly recommend MSI, Gigabyte or Soyo motherboards to you Blackwatch as I have enjoyed every one that I have ever gotten from those 3 manufacturers.
As for recommending a specific board I would ask what model of proc are you planning on using and what kind of upgrade path from there are you hoping to support? ie 400FSB, 533FSB, 800FSB?

well its a 1ghz pentium 4. bought in 2001. the fsb doesnt really matter. i will check into the msi line as i have had several of their AMD boards and have been happy with it.
no bruno, i dont think your my personal shopper. i was merely asking for any opinions on specific boards...like if you were to ask me about abit boards i would say that they have capacitor issues and to stay away. i wasnt asking for prices nor places to buy...that constitutes personal shopping in my mind.

Sorry. I give good info. I'm just a bit jaded by folks that want somebody else to do their googling for them.
I apologize for the off handed remark. I'm full of 'em. :D

That's good.
I do like those old tall Gateway ATX towers. I've seen some similar at newegg w/ NO PS for $70. And they were a bay short. :D
