VANTEC AeroFlow VA4-C7040

anthlon xp 1700+

epox 8rda+

400 watt power supply that came with the case.

when i start up my computer the fan doesn't spin i have to get it started using my finger.

after that it works fine.

is this a heatsink problem or something else?

i have reinstalled the heatsink twice and still the same problem.

I woould say that the fan is up for changing - if new send it back -

I have one that I put up with on a old P2 intel - but it would have a hard time making the heat of an athalon.

It should spin up without you having to do anything.

Definitely get rid of the fan. You can usually buy a new fan from stores like Comp USA, just bring the old one with you to compare size/connections.

I just went through the whole fan/heatsink thing and ended up with a Zalman 6500b and a Zalman H80 combo for both cpu and video cooling...A little pricey but I've never been happier with the temperatures. Plus the whole system is so quiet now...I have to move my UPS out of the computer room because it makes too much noise comparatively.

thanks for the help.

it is a new heatsink.

i just wanted to make sure it wasn't something that i was doing wrong.

i never used this model before and with the way technology changes i didn't know if this was one of those changes.:)

back to the store it goes.

ok. update:

i sent the heatsink/fan back to the store and i just recieved it back yesterday with a note that said:

fan works send back to customer.

i installed the fan and it spun up right away.

shut the system down because i am still installing hardware.

cut the system back on and i was looking in the bios and checked the temp on the cpu 72 degree.

i look down at the system and the fan is not spinning and i almost got 3rd degree burns when i touched the heatsink.

they probably ran it once and it started right away and then sent it back to me.

now my choices are send the whole thing back and lose some more money, or just change the fan(if i can do this).

i'm going to see if i can take the fan off and then go to compusa tomorrow and buy a fan for it.(i hope)

Robin double check to make sure the Fan isnt getting bound up by having it's mounting screws warping it. Also I would try a different fan on it as there just might be something wrong with that one (bad wire/loose contact)

mntsnow----can you recommend some fans for this heatsink?

i've only bought heatsink/fan that came as one unit.

this is the first time i ever had to remove a fan:)

i want to be able to overclock this system.:)

i took the fan yesterday to compusa and they don't sell just fans, you have to buy heatsink/fan combo.:(
