Went to Fry's and pick myself up a D-Link DI-614+ for $59 after $20 rebate and a wireless D-Link PCI card for $59 after $10 rebate. It's so nice not having wires extending from room to room. This router has so many more useful feature vs. Linksys setup. I think there's someone in the complex using a Belkin Wireless router. My router picks up this signal and I tried connecting, but no go. Just for security measures, I put the MAC addresses of each computer where it will only allow these systems to access my network. Another thing I had to do was to forward port 113 to a non-existing computer to close this port up.

I think the D-Link routers are awesome for the money. Better than linksys in my opinion for the money. However, it needs to be configured unlike Linksys routers which are secure right out of the box. D-Link has tons of features you won't find on Linksys routers in the same class and I would recommend this router to anyone who wants to spend little cash and have a wireless network running..

Thanks NDC - I live in hicksville on a hill - so someone trying to enter my wireless net would be entertaining. But the way things are going - I am in the midst of splitting up my workspace and putting access for the kids - so considering I will be working in two buildings, wireless makes sense. I like having net access for the available tools to fix and work across machines.

That and a local guru, says we might have satelite linking by mid to late summer - this would make it very good for all! on this little hill called home.

Yeah, that would be great. Hopefully that satelite linking does come in for you this summer!

Glad it's worked out well, NDC. Interesting about the router, though I would expect it would need more security features out of the box than it's wired counterpart due to the wireless security issues, no?

Well, as long as you add the MAC addys of the systems on your network, your wireless network is secured in my opinion since each NIC has its own unique address... I even have the main system which isn't on a wireless added to the allowed MAC addresses...

Oh, and one more thing for D-Link DI-614+ router users. There is a new firmware out which adds 2X speed plus Enhanced Repeat Mode. Download it at the D-Link Support page...
