LG 795FT Plus not working with Radeon 8500LE 128MB

Hi all,

I upgraded my vid card from an ATI AIW Rage 128 to a ATI Radeon 8500LE 128Mb.

My monitor is an LG 795FT Plus.

The problem is that after i installed the new vid card, and tried to start the machine, i was getting the monitor flashing between on and a black screen. It sounds like the vid card is TRYING to send the signal to the monitor and it's having problems.
This flashing begins even when the machine is first turned on. So sometimes i don't even see the BIOS screen.

I tried using an older Sony monitor and it worked fine.
I also reinstalled the old vid card and the monitor worked fine too.

Has anyone ever seen this problem before? Is there any way to fix this problem?

I haven't seen that exact problem, but uninstalling the old drivers for the Rage cards 128 was always problematic.
(I never had the AIW, though...)

Might be some bits & pieces of Rage code still floating around in the system/registry.

It took several tries to get one Rage equipped machine switched over to a Matrox card. I don't remember the exact procedure, but it was tedious to say the least.

Actually, I haven't come across such a problem, yet. Have you already tried loading the monitor driver vs. using the default Windows monitor driver?

This is an indication that the monitor you are using does not have the ability to run at the default refresh frequency of the video card.

See if you ca go into bios and adjust vga refresh frequency...some motherboards let you do that.

I don't think it is a driver issue. I think it is a hardware issue.

I went to the device manager and checked the driver for the monitor as well as the vid card and it says they are working properly.

I am trying to find a win2k driver for the LG 795FT Plus but when i find one, windows does not recognize it.

I tried to change the refresh rate but it did not do anything.
