SOYO SY-7VMA-B
700E Celeron
128mb ECC Registered ram
Windows 98 OEM {clean install to a dod standard wiped Hdd tonight}

This board has onboard sound and shared AGP Video.

I can't get the sound to install/work. I keep getting the following popup box:

{ Information

VIA AC97 Audio chipset is not enabled on this system
Please enable it first on the bios and then run set up again }

I have looked everywhere in the darn bios and I can't find the chipset crap.
I wonder if I also was set the wrong driers CD. as it is suppose to auto run under 9x and it willn't. I start it via run cmd and when I click on the drivers button nothing shows in the box, also when I click on the more info button for the mainbaord it said unknow board. and I can't find anywhere, the PDF manual on the CD, there is not even one close to this boards make/ model number.

2and question:
what is "frame rate buffer"? I have 2m 4m 8m 16m 32m options, is this the settings for the onboard video memory from the main system memory? it has shared video memory.

3ard question:
what is MPU-401? I enabled it on the chance it had something to do with the sound chipset, nope it didin't matter.

Thanks

Edit: I guess I could spring for another XP or W2K OS and that would fix the drivers problem tho it would be a expensive way to solve it

Clear the cmos jumper to reset the bios.
Go back into the bios and reset date/time/boot sequence/etc.
Just the basics. Onboard sound should be enabled by default.
Frame buffer is amount of system memory reserved to support the onboard video. Leave it default until you get all the drivers loaded/configured...:D

Still nogo Mr.C. I'm getting the same info popup box on software instllation. I didn't have this problem when I set up two other baords with VIA onboard sound under 98 {Aopen and Abit}
I have an old ISA ESS audio card I'll put in. ticks me off that the onboard sound willn't enable. I had the right settings and it was at default which was auto, thats all it has, auto or disabled, no enable.
Could it be that the onboard chip sound is bad? if so I guess I should get a RMA and send her back, tho they don't have any more of these.
Thanks

Check the board for amr/sound jumpers. May just be a jumper in the wrong position.

Nope, no amr slot. and no jumpers, except for a couple jumpers, one is cmos and the other has to do with cpu.
I'll try my trail of version XP, and if that works I'll go and pick buy another full version disk of that later.
