Hi all - late in the night 3 days ago - after just getting this figured out - I got this message onscreen at about 1 in the morning. Now the noggin was lookin at it and saying to myself yikes we got a HD fraggin itself.

Since this is a old boat anchor - I want to know - can i go in with tools and go over the HD with a Dos utilty to find and mark all of the bummed out places on the HD. And set it so windows will not use them at all. and hopefully keep this frigger working for another little while till I determine if a HD would help this out.

I remember something in the distant past but - can any of you remeber a name to search for?

Thanks - Centurion :)

Yes you can have it do a though scandisk and choose the option to test and mark bad sectors for non use. the bad thing about IDE drives is they dont have any spare sectors so if a bad sector is found in a critical location the drive is shot.
