Hello, can anyone test this site I made for a good friend of mine, he designed it, I just put it down for him. I am also hosting it on my server for him. I am interested in the speed. I find it on aol (at work...) the pics are making it real slow. I have surfed other sites with pics that are much faster. Is there a trick to faster pages or is it my 265up connection that makes it slow?
Thanks!
Brian
Opps forgot the site! duhhhh

Thankx guys! That was fast.....Any ideas on the slow pages? Is there a setting I can use to boost the speed? No biggie, just trying to improve things here.
Nothing that will make any significant difference on the upload speed... What's the upload speed on your broadband connection?

Whats killing is your images...They are HUGE File size wise.
The home page is 322KB in total size and the Single image of the building is 264kb in size!
In comparison this page is 122KB in size and has TONS more graphics but they are all optimized for internet usage.
Good one Mike.. I was assuming they were already web optimized...

What has happened is your using a FULL size pic and then just "resizing" it in the html code rather than actually Altering the image to that size. Again your original is 264kb in size and attached is the same image but truely resized to the 178x106 resolution that you have the full size pic configured for and my image is only 6.56kb in size

My connection is 256up/3.0 down I never hear of optimizing pics..I use front page, and most pics were scanned in. Any help would be greatful.
No wonder it's so big.... Althought the image you see below is sized at 177 x 113 on the main page of the site, the actual image file size in the server is at 656 x 389.
Save the file I attached here and overwrite the file on the server and watch the difference you will see...
This is optimized from 264kb to 5.3kb....

Get your self a photo editing program like PhotoImpact, PaintshopPro (both of these are great and pretty cheap and can do almost what photoshop can!
I personally use PhotoImpact for the majority of the croping and resizing that I do. (web work/optimizing)
I use photoshop with NDC's help to make new graphics from scratch.
ROFL... looks like we posted at the same time! :D

copy either of the images NDC or I made to your webserver and name it exactly what the original image is named and the page will load MUCH faster

I have adobe photoshop elements that came with my scanner, guess its time to learn how to use it! LOL
Or download a copy of Infraview or ACDSee and use the web optimzation tool. Precise control isn't as good as PS, but will do... :)

This one will also help. Just rename it banner.jpg as it's 1/7th of the size of the original Now 5.6kb instead of 37.9kb
Looks like Mntsnow has you covered... :)

I also want to thank everyone! You all have been so nice to me, and eager to help...I may not be up on your level of pc technical knowledge but it doesn't seem to stop all of you trying to help.
Thanks again, I really mean it!

Good to know, I my call upon you guys sometime. I enjoy doing this kinda stuff as a hobby, I made the move to make a server as a next step. A bit of a challange, I am more of a hardware guy, working in a bodyshop for 10 yrs does that. (kinda like tools-can't have enough!..lol) Any way I made a few web sites for people and a couple for my business. The web bills are getting steep and the more I learn the more I want. My friends paid for the hosting, and I only charged one person for a very simple site. I hope to host them all by the end of the year and pay for the connection. Everything else I do I do for the fun and learning of it all :)
