I just put a P4 3.06GHz cpu in my machine ( for testing purposes only :D ) and I can tell you ...hyperthreading makes a difference!

No longer do I have to wait for one task to finish things when trying to manipulate another program...it's almost as smooth as a system with true dual processors.

Looks like I have found my new favorite.

Wow! Almost as smooth as dual processing with a single P4 3.06Ghz processor? If that's the case, I would love to see a dual Xeon in action! ;)

They do ok. But if you're running proper CPU crunching stuff like 3d rendering or whatever, you're best leaving the number of threads=number of CPUs.
That said, they still kick some serious behind.

Yeah, I think that HT is great. My Xeon system runs great with the HT enabled. It seems to make quite a difference having this feature enabled vs. disabled on certain applications..

Too bad I'm still far too skint for a new (top of the line) system let alone a P4 Xeon! :(
