I was thinking of getting the SyncMaster 957mb 19in. But I dont' know if I need a monitor with 1920x1449 resolution. I was also thinking about the SyncMaster 955DF 19in. The max resolution on this one is 1600x1200. When it comes to reading text I don't use a high resolution. When I play Ghost Recon I set it at 800 in the game. Does it matter if my monitor has a real high setting and I don't use it?:(

Your almost certainly noy going to need a resolution above 1600x1200. What you should look for is the refresh rates at the higher resolutions and what the dpi of the monitor is (the lower the better) and make your choice from that.

btw Welcome to XPC :D

If you're not going to be using the high resolutions that some monitor support, yes, it would be a waste. You will notice that cheaper monitors support higher resolutions, but the refresh rate is way too low... Be sure to buy a monitor that will do at least 85Hz at the rosolution you will be using the monitor mostly.

This should not be a problem for you since just about all 17" monitors and up will do at least 85Hz at 1024x768..

Thanks for the input. The ViewSonic P95F+ 19in has a 1600x1200 resolution and the DPI goes from 96-120 or up to 200% on the custom setting. The refresh rate is 60HZ-120HZ. I have mine set at 1024x768 85HZ and 120DPI If I make my DPI any lower it's hard for me to read my font. The small local place I got if from has a 7 day return deadline. I did't know that. They said I could bring it in for the same monitor back. Think i'm going to get another one and leave it in the box and try to sell it and buy me a diffrent monitor. I've been reading alot about others but still no closer on what kind I'm going to get. My eyes are killing me. Still looking for any input on a Monitor with Shadow Mask. If anyone wants to buy this $300 monitor for $250 let me know.:p

Personally, I've always like the aperture grill vs. Shadow mask. AG monitors are brighter than SM monitors and also sharper from my past expereince using both types. As for the stabilizing wires that can be seen on white backgrounds with AG monitors, you'll forget they're even there once you get used to it... :)
