What is safe temps for Intel 2.4g Xeon processors? The Intel web site under specs says thermal Spec 74 deg. C.

Does that mean not to exceed that temp? Or is that the running temp. Mine are running at cpu1 51c cpu2 47c

http://processorfinder.intel.com/scripts/details.asp?sSpec=SL6GD&ProcFam=528&PkgType=ALL&SysBusSpd=ALL&CorSpd=ALL[/URL]

Everything is fine, just wondering now that the warmer weather is here, and I only been running this machine for a few weeks now.

The "Thermal" spec is the max temp you should allow your proc to get to as over that they usually will die an untimely death. One of the nice things of the Intel chips is they will throttle the cpu back to cause the temp to go down and stay under the thermal rating.

Thanks for the input Mntsnow! I didn't know about the cpu's ability to throttle back. I am learning so much here at your site, I must have read every post. Thanks again!

Your more than welcome. btw this is some interesting reading and Tom even made a movie showing what happens to the chips under thermal overload for both Intel's and AMD's

Hopefully with more members signing up every day they will all start posting too and that will create even more content for everyone to read and learn from and contribute to as well :)

diveram-

Are you using the stock HS for your setup? Assuming my final remaining HS retention clip gets here today, I'll be building a very similar system this weekend. Same planar, 2.2/400s for processors. I'll be using the Dynatron DC1207BM-X/X HS and I'll post some temps as well. I've heard that the Dynatron performs a bit better than stock and at about 25 each I thought I'd give it a shot. Naturally, I've been waiting 2 weeks since the HS came in, since the vendor didn't send the retention clips and then managed to send only 1 pair for 2 HS.

Xaotic, I have those clips you need, too bad I didn't start this thread 2 weeks ago, I would have sent them to you. Yes, I am using the stock hs, but had to change the intel fans to quieter ones. They drove me nuts! What board do you have? Good luck!

I got the last set today. The clips are not at all similar to the stock clips, more like the original socket 423 retainers. If the clips were the stock clips, it'd be no problem to get them. My configuration is almost the same. The MSI board, a pair of 2.2 400Mhz FSB processors, 2 GB RAM. I'll be running a pair of 36GB 15K drives on a ServeRaid adapter and some storage drives on the onboard USCSI interface.
