View Full Version : Intel D845PEBT2 Missing Driver Question
I'm building a new PC with an Intel P845PEBT2 motherboard, P4 2.4BGHz/533, and 1GB PC2700 DDRAM. After an uneventual WinXP Home Edition install, and the installation of the Intel Express Installer CD, I am still missing a driver in the Device Manager. The driver with the big "?" and the staement is as follows: "Mass Storage Driver Missing." The Express Installer CD installed the new Intel Application Accelerator Driver for the ATA and ATAPI devices, so what am I missing here - perhaps the SATA driver??
Any assistance in the matter would be greatly appreciated.
Tnx,
Don W9CW

Hey Don
I have an Abit board with that same chipset and the order of install for the controller drivers seems to make a difference. I tried to fly by the seat of my pants, but ended up starting from square one and using the mobo book to follow the drivers "order" of installation.
btw I think your going to like that board. I ended up with the Abit IT7 MAX2 cause of the 6.1 on-board sound & the USB2.0, but the Intel board was the next to last pick for me
good luck & let me know how it turns out!

Ive set up the D845PEBT2 before. heres the scoop.
To answer your first question, the mass storage device needing a driver is likely the Silicon Image SATA / SATA RAID controller chip. With your mobo, you should have received a floppy disk with these drivers. If not, you can download them from here LINK (http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/bt2/bt2_drive.htm)
As for the motherboard in general. The only drivers you need for the motherboard are:
- Intel INF Software (INF "drivers")
- Intel LAN drivers
- Silicon Image SATA controller drivers
- onboard audio drivers (if using onboard audio)
THe Intel Application Accelerator (IAA) software is optional. For most people it creates far more headaches than its worth. With WIndows XP you will get almost zero performance improvement from IAA. So if youre not sure what to think about IAA, dont install it.

Next, for the drivers in the list above that you DO need, you can either use the ones on the mobo CDROM, or you can go to Intels site and get more recent versions. For example, Intel just released a new set of INF drivers in the last two weeks. You can find the latest version along with their release notes here LINK (http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/Product_Filter.asp?ProductID=816)

Finally, if you need help installing your operating system, let me know. Ive written a very comprehensive and easy to follow OS / Driver Guide. Since Im new here, Im not sure how the Moderators feel about posting links to other forums. So if you like to use this Guide, send me a PM and Ill send you a link.

Im glad to help, and thanks for the warm welcome! :) I currently attend a number of online hardware forums. I stumbled upon your website and forum earlier today during a Google Search. And after clicking around the site I must say I was impressed. It seems like theres a lot of really smart people hanging around. Plus from looking at the forum posts and the Moderators, this forum left me with the impression of an really friendly, upbeat place.
So I had to join :D :D
Great place you have here Sir!
